Question:
18 months dr monitored diet

I have been looking into my insurance program and they will cover the surgery if morbid obese, but you have to have 18 months of documented dr approved and monitored weight loss program that is consecutive. Eighteen months of consecutive weight loss. I've got abotu 10 years but never any 18 months consecutive. My dr has written out a letter to insurance that I've been monitored by him for the past 18 months and at the last appt we discussed surgery as an option. Is the insurance company going to want medical records also or just the referral from the Dr?? I really don't want to have to wait 18 months from now to get the insurance approval. Are insurance companies really this bad and want all the dr records to verify this?    — miccimouse (posted on July 24, 2002)

I was approved by BCBS of TN. I sent them a list of every diet I had been on since I was 15. I only had a few months that were actually under a doctor's care. I got approved. I think you will be ok.
