Question:
How long after gastric bypass/gastric banding did you have plastic surgery done.

I'm noticing this terrible rash that keeps coming over and over again. I also have a hernia and diastasis Rectii. I really need it but I'm also out only three months after surgery. How long should I endure these infections and pains (my panni, now that it hangs, really pulls bad on my lower back) before considering doing something (well I actually decided to have plastic surgery done) so I guess the question is WHEN?! Well...most PS recommend that you're at least 18 months out so that your finished losing the weight or very close to it. I'm 2.5 years postop, and haven't had a TT yet, but I did have a breast reduction and lift at 20 months postop. I'm waiting on the TT, because I want to have a baby before I do it (don't wanna waste all that money I'm gonna have to shell out!)...Is there something they can do to treat the rash at this point, and document it so that when you are ready for the PS, insurance will cover? Good luck! Denise 316/158

Hang in there as long as you can and get as close to your goal or ideal weight as possible. This will make a better result with the PS. The good news is- you can keep DOCUMENTING the rashes and pain with your PCP, get the necessary prescriptions and have a wonderful medical record to submit to your ins. co. as proof for approving the surguries you want. BTW- My start weigh was 306. I currently weigh 143, so I tell you- your goal is possible. You are doing GREAT with the loss. Hang in there, at the rate you're going you can probably look to surgey at the one year mark. The only extenuating factor is if your hernia becomes a problem, then all bets are off.

I had my tt at 9 months post-op. I was 10 pounds from my goal weight. You would want to wait to have the tt until your no more then 20 pounds from your ideal weight. That way you get the best results from the plastic surgery. Even though you might have to wait a little longer, trust me, the closer to your goal weight, the better your results will be. Also, as the previous poster indicated, get medical documentation for the rashes. That will help in getting the tt approved.

We've been told the same thing as the last poster...you're ready when you are 20lbs or closer to your goal weight. Keep up the great work!

I had my lower body lift done at 12-3/4 months and 17 lbs from goal. I had 19 lbs of skin removed so I came out of PS below goal.
