Question:
I need a multi-vitamin that won't make me sick; I have tried several different...

multi-vitamins, and they seem to make me so sick. I have tried eating something then taking the pill then eating a bit more, and I still get sick. When I get sick I get "dry heaves" they just make me feel horrible. I also have two zinc caplets I take a day plus two iron pills a day. Does anyone know... do they make a "buffered" multi-vitamin??? Someone please help... currently I am not taking my full dose of my multi-vitamin that I should be taking. Please no lecturing; becuase I know I should be taking them, but I can't stand gettig sick anymore. I just need some helpful advise.    — Jamie T. (posted on September 4, 2000)

I just posted this before your question...Its a liquid vitamin called All In One Plus, GNC carries it and its great. Taste great, sometimes I mix it in with my protein drink or drink the 1/2 oz dosage by itself. Its sits really good on my stomach. Good Luck. I had a time with this but I was determined to find an alternative to Flinstone Vitamins, for me they were not doing the job. Peace, Trina

I had trouble taking any pills for the first month post op. There are days I still do. When this happens I take the one that is the most important, first. sometimes that's all I can get down. I take it at a time of day when I am least nauseous. I take 2 Flintstone COMPLETE vitamins a day. they are chewable and come in a variety of flavors in each bottle. Bugs Bunny Vitamins is another brand that my surgeon recommended. 2 per day. Good luck. I know it isn't an easy thing to do when youre not feeling well. We all know how important it is to take your vitamins faithfully everyday, but when you feel like that it is very difficult. Please keep trying.

I don't know what type of vitamins you have tried. Are they regular adult vitamins and are you splitting or chrushing them? My pharmisist told me not to split vitamins that aren't meant to be chewed because the coating is very important. It helps keep you from getting sick to your stomach. Hope this helps. He helped me find some small round pilss that adults need two of.

Since my surgery 10 months ago I have taken Vita4Life. They are a multi-vitamin in a capsule that was developed by a bariatric surgeon. Their web site is Vita4Life.net and for a proximal bypass one can will last you 3 months. I take 4 capsules a day (I spread them out) and have never had any problem with them.

I use children's chewable vitamins with iron from Rexall Showcase International. I take 2 a day plus a sublingual vitamin B-12 tablet that I get at GNC. Both of these digest easily and you just chew them. Contact me at [email protected] for more information, or order direct from Rexall at my website: http://www.rexall.com/awilson

What kind of iron are you taking? Since we cannot absorb ferrous sulfate ANYWAY, it isn't a good iron for us. It can cause pouch upset and "tar poop". You might want to swtich to ferrous fumarate or a carbonly iron, which you would take with a vit C, not with your multi ot other pills. If it's making you miserable, everything could be further irritating you. Zinc also can upset tummies in some folks. Are you taking them at the same time or a few hours apart? You didn't say how far out you are from surgery, but there a number of reasons for your gastric distres besides the "brand" of vitamin.

Hang in there. I take a Centrum multi-vitamin that is about the size of an M&M. I have no problems taking it whole. I use the size of an M&M as a guide. I like to "hide" my vitamins in my yogurt. They go down quite easily. I sawa posting just last week where another member mentioned that zinc made her sick. Perhaps that's what the problem is. Good luck!!!
