The first impression of my surgeon was that he was very friendly. Sometimes in the past Drs have intimidated me and with Dr V this was not the case at all. Do not get me wrong he was very straight forward and informative but he did it in an informative unintimidating manner.
Over all his staff were very friendly and organized when it came to appointments and follow ups. Dr V and his staff focus on aftercare and and stress going to meetings which Dr V attends .
I am having my surgery on Oct 13th, so I will add more soon =) Good luck to all.

Dr. Vithiananthan has been wonderful to me. He has answered all my questions and told me what I needed to do before and after the surgery. All of his staff have been very nice and helped me with the process from before and after the surgery.rnThere is a montly support group held at the Miriam Hospital for all gastric patients that Dr. Vithiananthan usually attends to answer any questions people might have. The support group is opened to anyone considering or already had some form of gastric sugery. The interacation at these meetings are very helpful.

On 7/31/08, it will be 2 years since my Lap Band sugery. Dr. V. is the best surgeon in the world! He truly is. Although I saw him while he was at Winthrop, I refuse to see any other surgeon, I now go to R.I. to see him. He saved my life. Not only is he thorough, percise and excellent at what he does, his bedside manner and directness is absolutely wonderful.

Dr. Vithiananthan has exceeded all my expectations, from my initial consultation though post surgical follow ups. Dr. V has demonstrated his extensive knowledge, professionalism and compassion when it came to explaining the different procedures that are available to treating obesity. He is a tremendous asset to his profession. I would highly recomend him to anyone thinking about having surgery. Karen, his nurse is a wonderful asset to his office, she is caring, understanding and beyond helpful when it comes to dealing with insurance companies.

ACTUALLY I HAVE MET WITH THE SURGEON,, BUT HAVE NOT YET HAD THE SURGERY. I WONDER ABOUT HIS SUCCESS RATE, LONG AND SHORT TERM. HOW MANY SURGERIES HAS HE DONE? HOW MANY HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME? ARE THERE ANY STATISTICS THAT INDICATE HOW LONG LASTING THE RESULTS ARE?. HOW MANY PEOPLE SUCCEED OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME AS A RESULT OF THE LAP BAND SURGERY? ARE THER ANY DISADVANTAGES SUCH AS HAIR OR BONE LOSS? AS YOU CAN TELL I AM STILL APPREHENSIVE ABOUT THE SURGERY WHICH I NOW HAVE SCHEDULED FOR THE END OF NOVEMBER.
