I had been to one other surgeon before going to Doctor Vithiananthan. What a difference. Dr. V was completely upfront with me and extremely easy to talk to. He spent about 2 hours with me going over everything and answered every question I had. The other surgeon I went to only spent 15 minutes with me and I felt like I was being rushed out the door. And his Nurse Practitioner, Anita was a pleasure to deal with as well as his staff. I highly recommend Dr. V.

My first visit with Dr. Vithiananthan was November 18,2002. I had seen 4 other surgeons, and not one of them gave me an exam. Dr.V was extremely compassionate. He spent 2 hours with me.He went over all the pros and cons of the surgery. He then insisted on meeting with my husband so he could explain to him. After my surgery was scheduled my husband and I saw Dr.V . He spent another hour with us making sure my husband was comfortable and understood the procedure. He also made sure all my apprehensions were answered. He again stressed the importance of follow-up care. His staff was wonderful. I had come into a couple of obstacles and they were right there to help me with them.I would rate Dr. Vithiananthan a 10. He has surgical competence and bedside manner.

Today was my first consult with the surgeon, and I'm still reeling. After a few years of standing backwards on the scale, I faced the number and it was more than I expected.

I walked in adamant that gastric bypass was not for me--I wanted the lap band, period. But as it turns out, I'm not a candidate for anything but an open RNY.

Dr. Vithiananthan and his office staff were amazing--warm, personable, intelligent, and made me feel very much at ease. So did the three current patients who took the time to approach me in the waiting room.

Anyway, this is all new and scary, and I have some research to do and decisions to make.
