Dr. Carter was very knowlegable about the surgery, did a great job explaining what took place and the results I might expect. He made me feel very comfortable. As our relationship progressed I became very happy to have him as my surgeon. His staff was great, and he and they came to visit me each day I was in the hospital post-op. If there was anything to find fault about it isn't his fault, it is difficult to get an appointment at Madigan due to the large number of patients that qualify for the surgery. Patients should know he is great, they will be lucky to get him. He does believe in follow-up, and it is easier to get appointments after surgery. He was very clear to point out the risks involved in the surgery. I believe him to be a top ranked surgeon, whose surgical competence and bedside manner are both superior.

Very pleased with Dr. Carter. Soft spoken, but to the point. Answered every question either my husband or I had. Very patient. Made me feel very comfortable. Very knowledgeable in his field. I have met with him three (3) times and have not changed my feelings. Actually, he is putting my fears to rest. He insists on Nutrition counseling, Mental health counseling, and Occupational Therapy PRIOR to scheduling surgery. This has been a great advantage that I would not have pursued if not been insisted upon.

Dr. Carter is always there if you have questions. He is very understanding, patient, and just a very good surgeon. He does stress excercise, well balanced foods and explains your aftercare quite well. He also explained all the risks that involved with this kind of surgery. And if you still have questions, he answers them. I think I had the best surgeon possible and I couldnt have asked for a better one.

Dr. Trombetta is part of Dr. Preston Carter's team at Madigan Army Hospital. Awesome guy, very forthright. Have only met with him one time so far so I'll edit as time passes.
Office staff are very pleasant folks especially the nurses. Funny gals and I feel very comfortable with being seen by them.
After care is very important to the docs at Madigan and they made sure I was very clear on how big this surgery is and how much my life will change. They have a nice handout package they gave me to educate me more about the surgery and also to give the names of some support groups in the area.

Overall I rate Dr. Carter's team as tops but again, I have only had the first meetings with them so I will add more as time allows.

Took them a long time to respond to my calls..about 7 weeks altogether. The end result worried me because I started getting assertive about getting a response and I thought it would upset the docs. They took it in stride and reassured me that they understood my position and would have reacted the same way. Apologetic and kind. I'm looking forward to getting to meet Dr. Carter face to face. He has great phone presence LOL.

Wanted to add that Dr. Carter called me one year post op to check up on me and discuss some issues that were taking place with me. I now live in Kentucky and while he did not have to do so, it meant SO MUCH that he took the time out of his schedule to do this. I owe him so much and am very thankful that I had such a tremendous surgeon watching over me during my procedure. I would definitely see him again in a heartbeat!

After a long battle with Insurance and other problems, I finally met with Dr. Carter on 12 June. He was very helpful in making sure that I understood the risk and that I wasn't over expecting the results of the surgery. He called me back a couple days later with a surgery date of 4 Aug 03

Dr.Carter and Dr.Hoque are fantastic. I couldn't have asked for better doctors then those two. The aftercare was great all the nurses and staff were terrific. Both my doctors came everyday to check on me and to see how everything was progressing.

I first met with Dr Carter at a meeting about the surgery. At that day I was put on the list May 15th 2002. And that time I was told 12-18 month waiting list. I went to the dietician and got that appointment taken care of.
Then a week after that appointment I got a call from Dr.Carters office lady and she told me I had a surgery date of June 23, 2003. I really like him. He is very open with what he is going to do and what I am going to go through. I have heard nothing but good things about him. I am looking forward to having my surgery. I would rate him a 10!!

I have not yey met Dr. Carter face to face.
I have spoken to him twice on the phone and both of those calls lasted about 20 minutes.

He answered all my questions and I am quite at ease with him being the head of my surgery team.

He comes highly recommended.

I have read all of the comments and "posts" that I could find here and they seem to confirm my belief that I will be in the care of one of the very best in the business.

My pre-op is not yet scheduled but my surgery date is and I am ready!

I am a 62 year old retired U S Army Chief Warrent Officer and I have fought being overweight all my life. I truly believe that this upcoming surgery and the new lifestyle after surgery will prolong my life and allow me to REALLY enjoy my "golden years."

Well I did not meet Dr Carter before the surgery but I did meet Dr Steele, and He was very nice, very personable and had a wonderful bedside manner. But I did meet Dr Carter after surgery, He was a quiet man and then he came to see me with out all the other doctors and he was just as personable as Dr Steele. He has been a great support since the surgery, and he encourages you when you come to see him and Dr Steele is also incouraging and says " Hey Congratulations I bet you feel great! "
So both have been a great support! I would not have had anyone else do the surgery. Also Dr Carters secretary is a wonderful lady. She is pleasant when you speak with her on the phone and she is promt at getting back with you on questions you have. There also was a Dr named Dr Hamidi and she was a great person too. You couldnt ask for a better team. Even the PA's that come around with the doc's are always patient and caring.
The after care was even better because they were so happy to see your progress and they are always open to any question you have. They have a Support group at Madigan Army Med Center for the surgery and also you get seen by a dietician. So that is a big help.
We did talk about the risks of surgery and they were honest about everything. With any surgery there is a risk. I would rate the The Doc's a 10! Just remember to ask about the stuff you have to drink after surgery to see if there is any leaks anywhere in the surgery site. ITS GROSS!! But you have to do it. I would say that Overall you couldnt be in better hands for this surgery.
