I had a lap RNY with Dr. Rupp on 5/23/11. I absolutely love Dr. Rupp and all of his clinic staff at St. Paul Surgeons. Anytime I had a question they were there for me whether big or small, there was always someone there to help. Also his people that deal with the insurance companies were amazing and I never had anything to worry about. My surgery was done at United Hospital in St. Paul and they too were simply amazing. As of today I have lost 85 pounds and am 0.2 pounds from my goal weight. If anyone were to ask me "would you do it again?", my answer would be absolutely and Dr. Rupp would be my choice of surgeon....

Dr Rupp was (and in my mind still is) amazing. Back then he was thorough, caring, very informed and helpful. I'm referring my daughter to him now. I hope he can change her life as he did mine! Anyone who asks me gets his name and my enthusiastic support!

I am GRATEFUL that I had Dr. Kelly for my surgery. He cares about his patients before doing and after surgery. That means a lot to people now a days.

Dr. Rupp was one of the best surgeons I've ever had and I've had alot of surgeons. I had the VBG 10 years ago and 2 years after that I had hernia surgery and a tummy tuck. I liked Dr. Rupp right off as he seemed to be a very caring surgeon. At the same time I was having a problem with a lump on my left breast in Iowa so I asked him to check it out and he did that for me also. I seem to accumulate alot of conditions along the way. He had to problems accommodating me. I was impressed with that. His office staff was a little less impressive. They were more protective of Dr. Rupp instead of interested in the patient which I can understand to a point. I came from Iowa so it got a bit complicated and I could not always get a primary doctors approval for everything. Anyway, the aftercare program I felt could have been better and lasted longer than a year. I have had so many problems due to my osteoarthritis. Dr. Rupp was very up front with the risks of surgery, he was willing to sit and address all of your questions in your visits with him. I would rate him a 10 out of 10 and I feel surgical competence and bedside manner should be on an equal footing. I know a great back surgeon down here but he's a horses ass. I would not go to him ever!!! I would find a good back surgeon with a much better bedside manner. Dr. Rupp has both. I would highly recommend him plus he has the experience to back him. Good luck everyone!!

I wanted to update my review on Dr. Rupp and his clinic St Paul surgeons.

When I first met with Dr. Rupp I was disapointed. He seemed to rush through my appointment. However I found out later that the reason for this was because I had not made up my mind on which surgery I wanted to go with and so he wanted to meet with me again after I chose one and was sure of my choice. I met with him again today and he didn't rush me at all and answered all my questions. I am very confident in his abilities because of his track record and his education and teaching experience at the University.

I still have to say that Nicky the girl who takes care of getting the patients through the insurance hoops is very rude and I would never let someone that rude deal with patients who are putting their lives in these surgeons hands. She has no compassion and no people skills. However you can tell she is good at her job and knows what she is doing. But it would be nice if they could find someone else who can do the job AND treats patients with respect.

My final note: This is just to I save some people the shock at the end. I wasn't told that I would need to pay whatever my insurance wasn't covering upfront before I could schedule my surgeory. If I had known this I would have been saving during my 6 month insurance hoop jumping time. I almost had to switch to Abbot since they don't charge that money until after, but I found a way to get the money so I was able to stay with Dr. Rupp. So be sure to plan out your financials too and find out ahead of time how much you will need to save up before you schedule.

I will add to this after I get my surgery in October. Wish me luck!

My first impression of Dr. Rupp was 'subject matter expert' and 'experienced'. My second impression was 'no bs' yet 'understanding'. When I met him for my pre-op appt, I also realized he has a calming, confident manner that is bolstered by a sense of humor. I liked that. Dr. Rupp did not sugar-coat the risks, but he did put them into perspective. I do wish that pre-op, I had been given a little more 'face time' with him. He was in and out of my pre-op room quickly. Post surgery, I liked that he saw me, personally, each day before I went home from the hospital.

Dr Kelly came across cool and unflapable. My impression of him did not change over time and his office staff was, for the most part, very helpful. Remembering that ultamitly it is your problem to stay on top of it and to do the double checking. They are human like eveybody else and are prone to " I thought she said" and " I'll Transfer you " YOU stay on top of it always double checking things yourself' St. Paul Surgens has a follow up structered support program in a meeting once a month on a specific topic as well as an already set up office plan to see him one on one. Overall I think Dr. Kelly is great surgen and has excellent"bedside manner" My family knew what was happening before I did

Dr Rupp was wonderful. His staff was so kind and supportive. I looked forward to the monthly support group. I am 13 years post op and still a loss of 130 lbs. My life was changed forever.
