My first contact with this office was through a support group I found on the internet. I attended a meeting that was hosted by a member of their office staff (valerie). It was very informative. I was impressed by Valerie's willingness to answer any question. I then scheduled an appt for a consult/physical. They requested that I first attend an information session with one of the physicians in the practice (there are two). I went to this "meeting" with other people who were scheduled for their consult/physical. This meeting included a slide show and small lecture from the physician. I really didn't get much additional info from this meeting, since I had already researched alot on the internet. I was impressed with how the physcian was very patient and attentive to questions. When I went for my consult/physical it was very quick. She did answer all my questions, but it took about 5 minutes for the exam. The office was helpful in getting me approved in 4 weeks, I only had to nag one time!

quiet informative gentle person. has dr. bruce for an associate. both take time to answer your questions. the office staff is very knowlegable and helpful.when you go to the first meeting you will see slides and information about the surgery.you will recieve a pamphlet to take home and review. this tells of the surgery, pain management, what you will eat after the surgery and complications that can occur after the surgery. she also uses a binder after surgery to help give the abdomen support.she will follow you as long as needed re anything to do with the surgery.over all i am very happy i chose dr. clarey. her after care is excellent, and her success rate is great,I would be comfortable with her doing any surgery for me or my family, her surgical competence is great and she is very comfortable to talk with she doesn't make you feel like shes in a hurry.

I attended an information session and have an appointment for a physical. I have all my paperwork from previous doctors and weight loss attempts and I'm hoping to submit it to the insurance company next week. I will be visiting her aftercare program next week as well to see what kind of questions people have and to talk to some of her patients.

Drs. Bruce and Cleary do each RNY together and I'm very impressed with their caring attitude and down-to-earth information. The office staff is great, especially Valerie, the office manager. She went to great lengths to get both my hubby and me scheduled quickly and together!

They adequately address the risks of surgery and we very honest in providing their personal statistics. They also emphasize aftercare and have an after-care program.

Being pre-op, I would give them a rating of 8 with a higher surgical competence than bedside manner. I'll let you know if my expectations of the bedside manner change after I see them bedside next week.

I THOUGHT THAT THE DOCTOR WAS VERY INFORMATIVE AND THAT THE INFORMATION SESSION REALLY TAUGHT ME A LOT. THE OFFICE STAFF WAS EXTREMLY FRIENDLY AND VERY PERSONABLE. MY FIRST IMPRESSION WAS VERY FAVORABLE. HE EMPHASIZED AFTERCARE. YOU SEE HIM 1 WEEK AFTER DISCHARGE AND ANOTHER IN 2 WEEKS THEN MONTHLY APPOINTMENTS FOR THE FIRST YEAR AND THEN ONCE A YEAR FOR LIFE. THERE IS A SUPPORT GROUP EVERY MONTH AND HIS OFFICE IS WILLING TO THROUGHLY ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE. I GOT TO TALK TO SOME OF HIS PATIENTS AND THEY WERE VERY HONEST WITH THERE ANSWERS. HE REALLY WENT OVER THE MOST COMMON COMPLICATIONS AND WAS VERY BLUNT ABOUT THEM.

I chose the team of Dr. Alison Clarey and Dr. David Bruce as my surgeons. I saw Dr. Bruce for my first appointment. My impression of Dr. Bruce was that he was a very thorough, compassionate physician. He took the extra effort to schedule for me to see a cardiologist for a cardiac clearance for the surgery since I have a history of a mild stroke caused from a hole in my heart from birth and blood clotting at the hole and causing a stroke. I'm on blood thinners now as a result and he wants to be extra careful in making sure that the surgery is performed as safely as possible with cardiac follow through for it due to that.
I met Dr. Clarey just prior to surgery and she came in and checked on me daily while I was in the hospital and I saw her for my first post-op appointment.
Both of them are so nice, very compassionate, and very concerned for their patients. They're wonderfully skilled surgeons and I would recommend them highly to anyone, and I have! :)

I think Dr. Clarey is a very gentle, confident, and intelligent woman. I was truely impressed with her patience of tons of questions I had for her. Her office staff is abosultely wonderful and they definitely see that you are taken care of. She does have a partner, Dr. Bruce, and they both do the surgery. Both doctors are VERY thorough, competent and make me feel totally at ease. I like the thought of having two surgeons operate on me at the same time to get this accomplished. I feel totally comfortable in putting my life in their hands and at this point would rate them a 10+. They do have a support group aftercar program, and I attened on pre-op.

What was your first impression of him/her?I didn't meet her until after my surgery, she does the surgery together with Dr. David Bruce. But when I met her, she seemed okay. lol I was on drugs. Sorry. Dr. Bruce seems nice. Just seemed a bit brief.

How would you describe his/her office staff? Their office staff seems very nice and extremely helpful. Especially a woman named Valerie, she is 11 mos post op (Open RNY) and will take her time to answer all your questions. VERY nice person.

What did you like least about him/her?
Dr. Bruce seems very nice and polite. Honestly haven't had much contact with either of them yet.

Does he/she have a structured aftercare program?
Not sure yet.

How did he/she address the risks of surgery?
I went to a class that is required of each candidate before they will agree to make a claim to your insurance. Dr. Bruce was very helpful in explaining all the risks and benefits as well as answering all the questions he was asked. It was very informative.

How would you rate him/her overall?
I would say on a scale from one to ten -7- as far as bedside manner. -10- as far as surgery. I'm healing nicely and have had no major problems at all.

Which is better, surgical competence, bedside
manner, or both great?

Both great. I think surgical competency is obviously EXTREMELY important obviously. But bedside manner is also greatly important. A person wants to feel that they matter and are not just a subject of study or experiment.

DR. CLAREY IS A NICE PERSON FROM WHAT I'VE
GATHERED. SHE EXPLAIND THE SURGERY TO ME,
AND EVEN CHECKED UNDER MY STOMACH WHERE I
WAS GUALDED AT THE TIME. THE OFFICE STAFF
WAS SO VERY NICE, ALL SMILES AND VERY, VERY
HELPFUL. THEY CALL MY HOUSE ANYTIME SOMETHING
HAPPENS THAT I SHOULD KNOW. DR.CLAREY REALLY
TELLS YA WHATS GONNA HAPPEN BEFORE, DURING
AND AFTER THE SURGERY, AND TELLS YOU THE
RISKS THAT YOU ARE TAKING, WHICH ARE OF
COURSE DIFFERENT FOR EVERY PERSON. OVERALL
I WOULD SAY THAT SHE IS A GOOD DOCTOR, VERY
SERIOUS, BUT GOOD. ANYONE WHO GOES TO HER
IN THE FUTURE SHOULD KNOW THAT DR.CLAREY
AND HER STAFF ARE HELPFULL, AND NICE. ALSO
SHE HAS BEN DOING THIS FOR LIKE 15 YEARS,
WHICH EASES MY NERVES MORE THAN YOU CAN
IMAGINE.

Dr. Clarey is a D.O. not an M.D., and Dr. Bruce assisted with my surgery. I had the best of care and have the utmost respect for both Dr. Clarey and Dr. Bruce.
