I have only attended an orientation where Dr. Rumsey spoke. He is one of four surgeons with Pacific Bariatric. What I like best about him is his sense of humor and he seems very patient.

10/09/00: I saw Dr. Rumsey in the office today for my consultation visit. He is wonderful, he was so nice and understanding. He did the procedure on my mom and she is doing great. I am very excited having him as my surgeon. The office staff was very friendly and helpful with all the paper work. His nurse was great with me. Dr. Rumsey explained the whole procedure and answered all the questions I had with no problem. He welcomes your comments and gives you answers you can understand. I would rate him at a 9 for now just because I haven't had the surgery yet.
11/21/01: Dr. Rumsey is the greatest surgeon ever. I am very lucky he happended to fall in my lap. He was just great with me and he had me so relaxed and and very confident with his expertise. He truley made me feel great. I would reconmend him to anyone. The hoospital staff was great also. The nurses took great care of me. Anything I needed they would get for me. The whole experience was great. Dr. Rumsey, his office staff, and the hospital staff all get great big 10's from me. I just can't tell you how great they were.

I chose Pacific Bariatric and Dr Rumsey after attending a manditory meeting. He was the surgeon who performed the lecture. I have been extremely satisfied with his care. I would refer anyone looking for a surgeon to him. He has changed my life for the better.

I have not yet met Dr. Rumsey but he did conduct the seminar that I attended on 11/2. He seemed like a very personable, friendly, well-educated person and I liked him very much. I have been informed by others that he is "one of the best surgeons" around. I am looking forward to meeting him. I have only had dealings with his staff over the telephone and they have been very helpful and friendly.

7/12/00 update -- Dr. Rumsey performed open RNY on me 2/8/00. My surgery went beautifully, I had no pain or discomfort of any kind. Dr. Rumsey was caring, attentive, even came in on his day off to check on me rather than letting the doctor on call follow me. He said he preferred to check on his own patients. He is fantastic.

Dr. Rumey was running about 45 minutes late the day I saw him, but when we did meet I felt like I was the only thing on his mind at that time.I feel I was treated with coutesy and respect. Dr. Rumsey is a quiet mellow person but he loosened up as the time went. His office staff (receptionists) were very busy!! Not rude just busy. His personal assistant was nice and helpful.
In regards to aftercare, the nurse gave me a packet of info with my name typed on it, and went through it with me. Dr.Rumsey specifically reminded me 3 times to make an appointment with my Primary Dr. at home for 2 weeks post-op. Pacific Bariatric offers monthly support meetings with former patients speaking and follow up meetings with a Pacific Bariatric Dr. at the same time for weigh ins (they rotate monthly visits).
Dr.Rumsey drew the procedure on a pad of paper and explained in great detail the risks and the amount of deaths that they have had. I think it was 6 losses to over 3,000 successes. He specifically explained the complications of embolisms.
I would rate Dr. Rumsey as excellent. I have met the other 3 Dr.'s of his firm and I think they were all different personalities but very good.
For me, I think surgical competence is more important. Bedside manner, I think is all in the eye of the beholder.

8/14/00 I am scheduled for my 1st group meeting on aug.26th will meet the staff at that time

8/26/00 Had my first meeting with nurse and staff member, at a lecture, they are very friendly and helpful.

10/2/00 I was scheduled on this day for 3 different doctor appointments, since I was driving a 100 miles, they made all my appointments for one day. . I first saw Dr. Rumsey, what a nice man.He will be my surgeon, and I felt at ease right off the bat. He was very friendly and sat down and expained the procedure to me, and the risk. He is so nice....I feel so at ease, the nursing staff was excellent also. I next had an appointment with the internal doctor (Dr. Bressler) he examined me, and was very supportive of my surgery. Then it was off to the psych doctor for an hour long talk. All three doctors confirmed I am a good canidate for this surgery. So now, Its just getting everything set up with the hospial, anthesia doctor, and Dr. Rumsey and I will be on my way to better me.....I hope it is soon...I'll be back as soon as I find out my surgery date.

11/9/00 I have been meaning to come back since surgery and tell about Dr Rumsey. What a great doctor. He is excellent in my eyes. He does his job well, is very concerned with his patients and their success. My surgery was fine, I had very little pain, and did not use much pain medication. I was out of the hospital on Friday morning, after surgery on Tuesday. In my opinoin Dr. Rumsey is a above average doctor. I would recommend him to anyone, he is the best!!!! The office staff is very nice and they are always ready to help you with any questions. I was lucky I had a doctor whom has surgical competence and a good bedside manner ....I rate Dr Eugene Rumsey a "10".........

Dr. Rumsey couldn't have been more kind or understanding. He made me feel at ease and exuded confidence. His support staff did everything they could to answer my questions. My entire experience from the seminar to meeting with the various doctors and psychologists, was very positive. My own primary care physician was not supportive of this decision and really did his best to desuede me, but Dr. Rumsey and his team gave me the confidence to step out on my own and make the decision to quit existing and to begin living.

I had done a lot of research on bariatric surgery; so I didn't receive a lot of new information. Dr. Rumsey did reinforce areas that would help prevent failure. While he told me about the risks of having surgery, he also pointed out to me that more people have died waiting for this surgery, than ever died having this surgery. Point was well taken.

Obviously surgical competence is more important than bedside manner if you had to choose one over the other. With Dr. Rumsey, I feel that I am getting both. It's important to feel that the physician is a bariatric surgeon because he cares about this misunderstood group of people and has the ability to offer them a positive solution to a life threatening problem.

I will undergo surgery on Oct. 31 and will be better able to answer some of the other questions after that time. I've been asked if I am nervous about the impending surgery, and my only answer is that I am excited and eager to get started on the rest (and best part) of my life.

My first impression of him is that he was nice, gentle and sincere about helping me.My impression over time was he was so caring and concerned with all my questions or problems that arose That i could tell him anything. The office staff was also great they were always there to answer any questions i may have had even in the middle of the night. I can't say there was anything i didn't like about my surgeon he was great. After care is very important to him if you feel you need to be seen for any reason he will make time in his schdule. The surgeon let me know about all the risks involved but to me the risks were higher staying the way i was. Overall i would rate him a 9

My first impression of him was ahhh no opnion. I mean he was nice, we went thru everything, I asked questions he answered and it was just all pretty well, but that was it. However after my surgery I discovered he's a great surgeon! He came in daily to check up on me and he was so very nice and sweet. He would hold my hand and pat me asking how I was doing, he would actually talk to me. He told me how great the surgery went real smooth. He has just been a wonderful person. The thing that really got to me is that he's very busy and he still takes a few minutes and genuinely seems to really care and is very compasionate. He is just great!

I met with Dr. Rumsey on 9/10/99. He is a very compassionate physician. He seems to truly understand how morbid obesity impacts people both physically and emotionally. He was very empathetic and positive.

His office staff at Pacific Bariatric imitates his style and philosophies. They are wonderful!

My impression of Dr. Rumsey thus far is soley positive.

Patients should know that he and his staff are extremely knowledgeable and caring.

Dr. Rumsey strongly encourages all patients to participate in every level of the program (diet, excercise, support group)... take his advice - you will not maintain your weightloss if you do not!

Pacific Bariatric offers a multi-disciplinary aftercare program.

During my visit, Dr. Rumsey very clearly pointed them out to me.
