Dr Hata is very knowledgable. He is young and a graduate of Duke.

He uses a technique that does not cut muscle or need a drain. He is wonderful.

He is very busy but he has people who will answer any questions you have.

Dr. Hata is a very caring and well skilled surgeon. I would recommend him a million times over he let myself and my family know from start to finish what was going to happen in surgery.

Dr. Hata is a very nice Doc with great manners towards the pt he made me feel very
comfortable and instead of doing the interview in a cold exam room he took myself and my soon to be hubby back to his office and we sat on the couch and had prob a 30 to 45 min talk. He honestly has spent more time with me than PCP has ever spent with me. I didnt find anything that I disliked about him and the staff has all been great and each time I have been in the office the computers have been down but the staff handled it very well and didnt slow them down.
I feel like I am in very good hands and he
is confident that I have made the right choice for my life and he had no doubts about
me needing the surgery and even called it a life saving surgery and said only thing that is elective about it is I can pick the date.

When I first met Dr. Hata, it was at an informational seminar required to be accepted into the program Catawba Valley program. I wasn't planning on him being my surgeon, but when he spoke he did seem to know his stuff and be very personable with the group. He was open to questions and answered all wonderfully, while making sure we were all aware of the different and differing levels of risks with the different types of surgeries.

In all honesty,I suppose it was the fact he was the "first available" surgeon (once I had all my paperwork ready to meet with one of the three) that influenced me to become his patient. To date, I haven't regretted this decision at all. The only negative I could find about him is beyond his control, being that sometimes surgery can make wait times for follow up visits rather lengthy. He is very competent as far as surgery, aftercare, and any issues you may face post-op. Best of all, he does seem generally concerned for your well-being, and very willing to give you his time should the need arise. I've been very glad for this patience, seeing as I've had some issues keeping myself fed for fear of discomfort and have had to see him a little more often than I should! He gets an A+ in my book!

As far as the Catawba Valley Surgical Weight Management program is concerned, all I have come in contact with to date are great! They know their stuff and are truly out for your best interest, both physically and mentally. The aftercare program is very structured with follow up visits, bloodwork, and just keeping in touch with the coordinator and deititian, and Dr. Hata does (as one should assume) like for you to keep those appointments!

Dr.Hata is a great doctor. He has been great through my whole surgery.Yesterday,I was one year post op and i have lost 141 pounds. He was great before, after and doing my stay in the hospital. He even made late night rounds to check on me during my hospital stay.He takes the time and sits down and talks with me.He answers all questions honestly and to the best of his knowledge that me or my husband may have.If you have any questions or concerns, him or his staff are right there to help. His staff is great too!Hickory Surgical Weight Loss is the best!I seen Doctor Hata today and even after a year post op, he has not changed. His aftercare has been great. He set in the exam room and talked to my husband and I and he took the time and answered every question we had. It's hard to find doctors like him.I highly reccommend him for weightloss surgery. His surgical competence and bedside manner are both great!I rate him on a scale from 1-10, I give him a 10.I'm so glad I chose him as my surgeon.

Dr. Hata is one of the best surgeons for laparoscopic, bariatric surgery. On 5/20/2014 I had my surgery (RNY- Bypass) and it turned out very successful! However, my story and history with Dr. Hata doesn't start there.
I had really been considering bariatric surgery for 2 years, and decided to go to a seminar done by the Frye Regional Medical Center team. This seminar gave out some great information. During this seminar (Held in Blowing Rock, NC. That's almost 2 hours from Hickory, NC where Frye Regional is located.). Dr. Hata personally drove up and answered questions regarding the surgical options to a seminar class of almost 40 people.
After the seminar, I found out that I had to complete a 6 month supervised diet. Dr. Hata assured me this supervised diet isn't a big deal. After working with my primary care doctor on the diet, I attended several more informational classes at Frye Regional and all of those classes Dr. Hata was there, always smiling and with a great attitude. Dr. Hata met with me and my support person for my one-on-one on 5/1/14, and met with us for my pre-op on 5/8/14, where he took as long as needed to answer any questions we had. Not only did he answer them, but he took us to his office to discuss any risk factors as well.
Surgery day, Dr. Hata saw me for the last time before surgery and made me feel comfortable, as I was nervous about this being my 1st surgery. The entire Frye team was competent, funny, kind, understanding, and passionate about what they do. Dr. Hata has a strict aftercare program, which places you on the road to success starting day 1.
I would suggest Dr. Hata and Frye Regional Medical Center as the place to go for your laparoscopic bariatric needs.

Dr. Hata is the greatest! I am 9 months out post-surgery and have lost 88 lbs!, you can barely see my tiny little scars. I is very meticulous with his patients and his procedure. I could not have asked for a better surgeon!

Dr. Hata and his team were amazing. I felt comfortable going in and would certainly recommend him to anyone wanting WLS at Frye Regional Medical Clinic and Hickory Surgical Clinic. I originally met him 2 years prior to having surgery and he remembered me. I was impressed by his easy going manner and ability to answer any questions (I did not have many.)

I only saw him once after surgery as he wanted to make sure all had gone well. The staff at the hospital were super competent and able to address any needs or concerns I had. The only issue I had was my first post-op meal. I did not get the 1oz cups they wanted me to use until after I had eaten. It was a mistake in co-ordination as the assistant who had brought the meal did not know she was supposed to give them to me.

The staff and surgeons at Frye Regional know their stuff. The class is meticulous and if you do not show competency and the necessary knowledge to do as they ask they do not recommend you for the surgery. That is completely okay with me because at the end of the day this surgery is major surgery. Regardless of it's low complication rate, if you follow the program you will succeed!
