I am on a long waiting list just to have the orientation with Dr.Lirio. When I called his office Paula(his office manager) stated she could not give me a date, but that it would probably be in the fall. The list has 50 people on it. The last orientation class had 75 people in it. I will update as things progress.

I really liked Dr.Lirio. He was very straight forward and very informative. My husband and I both are going to have the surgery. We'll being seeing the doctor one on one Feb. 14th. We will probably not have the until Oct. 2001. I update again after that date.

03/15/01 Will I have seen the surgeon one on one and really like him alot. He is very informative and very friendly. Paula is also very helpful and very informative.

05/19/01 Will I have my surgery date and been approved by the insurance company. Had a little problem about one of my tests but nothing serious. My date for surgery is on Nov. 13 and my husband's is Oct.23 . Now all we have to do is wait.

Dr. Lirio was very informative, upfront and honest. Paula his Office Manager was a real Gem. She was a great help in scheduling my appts. and getting my approval asap. After surgery he checks on you everyday to make sure your alright. I would recommend him to anyone, he knows what he's doing.

3/8/01- I met with Dr. Lirio on 3/5/01 during the BIG snowstorm, but since it took almost 6 months to get an appt. with him I wasnt letting 3 feet of snow stop me! Dr. Lirio is a very nice man and yes he is very busy. I think that Paula (who runs the office) is very nice and very helpful. They really seem to understand what you are going through. I am now beginning my long pre-op journey and have to have every test known to mankind before I have surgery-but it is worth it!

My first impression of Dr.Lirio was that of someone that cares about his patients.I have had many doctors that come in and just listen to half of your story and then throw a diet at you and tell you to come back in a month. Dr. Lirio isn't like that, he wants to "help" you.
Paula, Dr. Lirio's nurse/assistant, is the best. She knows what you need and when you need it. She schedules all of your pre-surgery tests and knows about all insurance companies.
Dr. Lirio doesn't sugar coat anything, he tells you like it is and then tells you what you expects of you after surgery. There is a support group that meets every month for Dr. Lirio's patients and people who just want to ask questions.
I have not said anything bad about Dr. Lirio because its all good. If you want to have something bad to balence it out the only thing I could say is that he is usually late getting out of the hospital and to the office for appointments. You have to wait sometimes an hour or so, but thats nothing for you to put up with if you have a new life thanks to Dr. Lirio "helping you"
By the way thats what he says, "I help people, I don't treat people"
I would put him at the top of the heap, probably 9.75 out of 10 ......

1/31/01 - Make sure you stay on top of your stuff, no one else will...Paula and "The Dr." have their faults.

I thought Dr. Lirio was very thorough and his office staff has been a pleasure to work with as they are always available to assist in whatever challenges may arise.

First impression - excellent way of speaking he didn't treat me and the others who met with him that day as an anything less than a valuable human being. My impression didn't change the more I know of him and how he has helped so many people to like life and themselves I'm impressed. His staff definately know their job and Paula his nurse is highly efficient and kind. The only thing bad at all is that he's so in demand that my surgery is not until March of 2001. Initial phone call was in June and initial consult was in August this is how prized he is as a surgeon. If you have any doubts by all means go to his support group the first Monday of every month at Ellis hospital cafeteria! He is extremely thorough with vitamin therapy and what you can & can't do to telling how long a hospital stay etc.He explained the risks of surgery when asked of complications & death he had no deaths as a result of surgery & like 1 problem and encouraged us to get the info. from his office & said Paula could help with that.I would rate a 10 on a scale of ten as he does not look down on you is thorough and has a great way about him. I am looking forward to my surgery in March!!!!!!

He was caring and interested in what I asked. My first meeting was with a few others
who were thinking of having the surgery. The doctor was not feeling well, so we had to make another appointment. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly.
