Preston Carter has a reputation for being one of the best gastric bypass surgeons in WA state. When I first met him, I had just had the news that I was facing a 2 year waiting list in a military hospital. He pulled me aside and advised me how to influence my priority for surgery. He treated me with so much respect I trusted him immediately. He operated with a team of other talented doctors. I've interacted with several of them and was treated well by all. Everyone on the surgery team spent time with me pre-op to explain risks and give me advice. Dr. Carter assigned a dietician to me to advise me in my aftercare period. She briefed me in the hospital, and I call her whenever I have questions. I would highly recommend Dr. Carter and his team to anyone. Of course, you have to be military connected to use their services. Having a competent surgeon who treats you with interest and respect made all the difference in the world to me.

Dr. Carter as well as Dr. Steele were wonderful. They were willing to answer any questions that either you or your family members had. They seem to truly care about the well being of their patients and try to make this new transition as easy as possible. I was very impressed with the outcome of my surgery. I had surgery on Wednesday and was discharged from the hospital on Friday (open RNY). The incision was smaller than most (per the doctor) and they were able to use disolvable stitches instead of staples. This will make for a much less noticable scar and an easier recovery. The really took their time during surgery to make sure that everything was perfect. I appreciate their honesty and sincerity. I would rate them a 10 out of 10. If anyone has any questions regarding these doctors, please do not hesitate to email me.

I had my surgery at Madigan Army Medical Center on September 16th 2002. I am just a few days shy of my first month anniversary. My first impressions of Dr. Carter and staff was not the greatest. I had quite a few troubling things happen prior to my surgery date. But I must say that completly changed after I had my surgery. I unfournately had some complications with my surgery and both Dr. Carter and his staff took very good care of me. I do think that they should create a better aftercare program though. I don't feel like there is really anyone I can call and talk to about problems I may experience without driving all the way back to the clinic. But when I have been out there they have been very informational. I am now aware of a support group in my area with other people that have had the surgery with Dr. Carter and I plan to go. Overall I would say I was somewhat satisfied with my whole experience. I am GRATEFUL that Dr. Carter was there to give me this second chance with my life.

Dr Carter and his team of residents are awesome! They are attentive, patient and knowlegeable! They made sure I undertood everything before I went in for surgery. They discussed the possible complications, but most of all, what the outcome would be! Dr. Carter is a competent and knowledgeable surgeon. I would recommend him to anyone who has access to him! On a scale of 1 -10 I rate Dr Carter and his team a 10! The staff, from the front line clerks to the nurses to the clinic triage staff all are awesome!

Confident,Dr.Carter was confident in himself and his team, I was most impressed with Dr.Martin and Dr. Wolcott. My aftercare was mainly with Martin and Wolcott. Very careing and ready to answer all my questions. I was discharged with plenty of information about my incision and dietary needs. Overall I would give my surgical team the highest marks. I have no complaints. This is my personal opinion and I am not making any statements as to what others may experience.

My first impression of Dr. Carter and his staff was that they were incredibly kind and compassionate. They answered all of the questions that I had and were very patient with me. They weren't at all condescending or rushed. They also respond to my telephone calls in a timely way. My second impressions of some of the other docs there aren't as nice. Everyone was so rushed it was like, "Get that lady in here, tell her something to make her go away and send her on!" The reception staff was very understanding though. I also visited with Dr. Weber in Seattle. He was nice, and likely very capable, but a bit to brash and self-assured for my taste. I recall him saying it would be nice to work on a young person for a change, since I had elastic skin, I'd have really good results. That sort of turned me off. It seems to me that many people chose Dr. Weber for the speed with which he and his staff can get you in and out of surgery. I prefer Madigan and Dr. Carter's waiting period if only because it gave me and my hubby time to decide if this was really something we wanted to do and live with. Finally, one of the things I like most about the Madigan staff is that they've been published in medical journals and their statistics are available to all. Very transparent. I'm always reassured by someone who's well respected and well-known by patients and colleagues alike. Dr. Carter, Dr. Martin, and someone else performed my surgery. They did a fabulous job and had me in and out of surgery in 3 hours. I spent two hours in recovery and than I got to see my hubby. I was out of it though. Either Dr. Martin or Dr. Carter or both came to check on me every morning and afternoon. Getting pain meds and even switching pain meds was not a problem at all. I got a detailed handout from a nutritionist outlining what I can and can't eat after surgery. And I'm headed back on Day 9 to have my staples removed. Dr. Carter does look a little geeky with the glasses and all, but I've been assured by everyone that he's the best Madigan has to offer.

Dr. Carter was so awesome! So NON judgemental and believes very strongly in the surgery!! He called me at 8pm to find out if I still am "available" for the surgery. The day he called was my birthday too! On a scale of 1 to 10? Well I'd rate him a 10 so far!!! I also had Dr. Steele as one of my surgeons. He is such a wonderful man... gorgeous too!! He explained everything in full detail... told me he was excited for me... and assured me I was going to do wonderfully!

My initial visit at Madigan was January 2001. The clinic is very busy and the waiting list is long, but the staff is wonderful.
10/30/01-I had a follow up visit with the general surgery clinic today and the staff is still great. Dr. Hussian was who I spoke to 1st today. She was very personable and knowledgable regarding WLS. I got to meet with Dr. Carter too and I feel confident having him perform my surgery. He seems nice.

Dr. Carter has a very unique position in military medicine by offering this procedure to us dependents. I found his office staff very patient when confronted with a ton of questions. Be advised if using this clinic that there is a substantial wait time involved. I was placed on the waiting list in Aug. 2000 and received my surgery date in July 2001 for a date of Sept. 24, 2001. I am hoping it is well worth waiting for!!
