When I first met him, he was very informative. He did not seem to have much of a personality. But, the more visits I had with him, I realized he in deed had one. I got him to laugh good one time. Dr. Davies knew his field well and I do miss my visits with him since he retired.

I felt like Dr. Davies was a wonderful man who would change my life forever. My impression of Dr. Davies is still the same as it was the first time that I met him. His office staff on the other hand was wonderful before my surgery, but atfer my surgery things changed. They became rude and acted like I was a problem. Well I there is really nothing to say about other patients knowing Dr. Davies due to the fact that he is retireing after october. After care is a big detail for Dr. Davies he makes sure you are doing what you were told to do. Dr. Davies will tell you up front that there are major risk in the surgery.

The first time I saw Dr Davies, he was a pretty imposing figure. "No nonsense" is the best way to describe him. He examined me, asked me questions about myself, explained the surgeries in detail, and stressed that the surgeries still would not work without my working too, on diet and exercise. Still, I knew I was going to like him when he asked me the question, "What is the one thing above all you want to get from this surgery," and I started to cry. I apologized for crying, and he was very very kind.

When I asked him about complications with the surgery, he was very honest; he said that even though he strives for no complications at all, there's always that possibility, and told me he had a patient at that time who had had some severe complications. I appreciated that.

I also appreciated the fact that when I went for my pre-op visit, as it was ending he asked if my parents were with me (I'd told him the first visit they were who'd be taking care of me post-op). I said 'yes,' and he went out and met them, the very picture of confidence, and explained how things would go, how long surgery would take, etc. That helped my folks a lot, and I thought it was very nice of him to do it.

As I entered the hospital for surgery and afterwards, my opinion of Dr Davies has only gotten better. I saw him briefly before surgery and he put me at ease, and he was there every morning to wake me up and check me over.

I'd recommend him highly to anyone. To everyone!

Also, may I say that Missy, Dr Davies' nurse, is great, I've had to call her several times post-op with general questions, and she's always been patient and answered thoroughly. And I know she works with several Drs in the Roanoke area, but dietician Kay Clatterbuck is a wonder. She's terrific.

Update 9/21/01: I very much enjoyed meeting with Dr. Davies and his staff. They were all very nice. They are very helpful. Dr. Davies explained the possible surgeries in detail, he included my husband in the consultation as well. He didn't seem rushed at all. His office staff explained that he would be @ an hour late due to an emergency & apologised for any inconvience. He also explained being late to us when he arrived! At this point in my journey,I would recommend him to anyone in the area. The only difficult parts for us thus far have been navigating the hospital areas! It's several seperate buildings over a couple of blocks & no good map to be found and the fact that I waited 11 months to get this appointment!

Scheduled to meet him next week (8/21) i know nothing other than my PCP highly recommended him, said he worked with him in Oregon (I think)

Update 4/3/03 Now that I have gone through 2 surgeries ( RNY & emergency bowel obstruction) with Dr. Davies & had some serious follow up care with him I can say I do trust him completely! I really feel like a partner in my medical care with him & his staff. I would recommend Dr. Davies to anyone. He is very clear about the risks of any procedure he undertakes. I've found that he, his office staff as well as Roanoke Hospital are great to work with. But... you do have to be the one asking the questions!

Dr. Davies is a man of few words who is an excellent surgeon. If I had this to do all over again I would choose him again which I think is a high form of praise. The staff has worked with me and my husband on many matters and I appreciate their assistance. I was seen by Dr. Collins in the hospital who I believe is either an intern or resident and he was wonderful. He took the time to "hold my hand" and make me feel like I was going to "make it through." Becky was and continues to be great. Some of the nusrsing staff I had in the hospital were so good, Mark and Connie to name two.

I would trust Dr. Davies with my life. He wants what is best for you. If you don't intend to do what he says don't waste your time or his. He is very straight to the point and wants you to listen and do what the diet says so you can acheive the best results. He will listen and do his best. I have had him for 3 operations and i will go to him for anything else and i trust hime completly.

I met Dr. Davies for the first time today and was pleased with my visit. He took time to explain to me the risks and ask me questions about why I wanted the surgery. I thought that was important because he could evaluate what my true reasons for this surgery were which will ultimately help me with success. I think we are going to get along great.

My first impression was he asked a lot of questions, which made him very thorough. His bed side manner isn't great but he seems to be very efficient. My impression hasn't changed yet. His office staff is very friendly and courteous. I didn't really dislike anything about him. He isn't lengthy in words but is very inquisitive and effective. He addressed all surgery risks on both visits I had prior to surgery. An overall rating so far, would be probably and 8 on a 1-10 basis. Will advise after surgery.

I saw Dr. Davies once last year but wasn't quite sure about the surgery and told him so. He suggested I take the time and not to rush into anything. He is very nice and knowledgable, his staff put me at ease also. I have my second appt. on July 11th and have decided to go through with the surgery. He came highly recommended to me by my old PCP whom I trust implicitly. I will let you know how the next appt. goes. I really like Dr. Davies, the more I see of him and the more I hear about him, the safer I feel.

my first impression of Dr.Davies was connected to his loud tie..LOL. I thought that regardless of what some had said about him [that he was dry and didnt have much to say]with that tie he has to have a sense of humor..His staff was very nice and helpful. When Dr. Davies came in the room he first introduced himself and shook hands with me. He is a very quiet spoken man. He ask a lot of questions and gave me time to ask my questions. He is a serious man but not "dry" as some said. i felt very comfortable with him and felt like i could be honest with him without being ridiculed.
