Michael Schuhknecht Bariatric Surgeon MD

Schuhknecht is a wonderful, no nonsense surgeon. Extremely competent, good bedside manner, and is very down to earthr. Highly recommended. Not thrilled with the surgery being done at Harper Hospital. Contracted Hep C from the gastric bypass procedure and spent 48 weeks treating the disease.

MY SURGERY WAS THIRTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS AND THE DAY OF MY SURGERY I HAD TO PAY THE ANESTISIOGIST (SORRY FOR THE SPELLING) SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS SEPEARATLEY.

Dr. S is a very nice guy and makes you feel comfortable. The office staff are superb. Everything was explained to me and by the time i left the office i had a full understanding as to what was going to happen.

I think that Dr. Schuhknecht and Dr. Sapala are the best surgeons that can help you with this type of surgery. My first imperssion of them was this is the type of guys that I would like to work on me. They are very into the care of their patients. They let me ask all my qeuestions first before they ask me anything.

He has the BEST manner of any surgeon I have meet. I have meet with 3 bariatric surgeons and he is by far the most concerned for YOUR well being. He is knowledgable about every step in the process. He is not afraid to give out his beeper or cell number for his pt. He has an associate Dr. K Kole who is just as warm, freindly and charming.
He has a SUPER NURSE who works with all the bariatric pt. Her name is Chuckie and she is like your life line.
His office is usually crowded with a variety of pt because he also does other general surgery cases as well.
He interacts with your family member as well as he does you. Having the support person's in your life understand what is happening is very helpful.
Currently because he has returned to Michigan they will be developing more support and aftercare services.
Overall I would rate him LEADER of the PACK. He is just a great overall physician, surgeon and person. I would highly recommend his service to anyone in the Michigan area.
Yes he does work with residents and interns but they also understand that Dr. S will not tolerate anything but the highest quality of care for his pt.

Took over from other surgeon was smart and easy to talk to

My first impression of Dr. Sapala was a great impression. He was very knowledgeable about the surgery. He seemed to want me to know that I was important. He didn't hold back on the details of the proceedure, or what it would take to loose the weight. He stressed the point that the surgery is only 1/2 of the equation. His office staff has been very helpful. I am impressed with Tamika and Lois. I wasn't real happy that we had to wait a long time (my appointment was at 1:30 and I left the office at 5:00). Otherwise all went well.Here I am one week post op I am more convinced than ever that I made the right decision when I chose Dr. Sapala to do this surgery. He has been so kind and answered every question with lots of concern. He hasn't made me feel like I was a fool on anything that I have asked. I would have liked to have seen him before I left the hospital. I saw everybody but him. I did talk to him later in the day and my hubby talked to him before I left the hospital.I can't fault him for not being there I know he is a busy MAN so all in all I would give him & his helful staff a 10 fro all they have done.
When Dr. Sapala left, I was so furtunate to be able to have Dr Schuhknecht. He did my TT & hernia repair. He is just like talking to your brother. He answered all my questions and was so helpful. He never thought that I was dumb to ask a question. I sure hope I don't have to chose anyone else for my after care. He is great.

My surgeon was GREAT! He did a great job, even my incision looks good (for an incision) and it's such a clean, straight cut that I think it's not going to look that bad when it's all said and done.

He is very caring, informative and he even called me from his vaction to check up on me.

I was very satisfied and pleased with him. One of my friends had him two years ago and recommended him and she had the same experience as I did.

Dr. Schuhknect is very professional and he made the experience easy for me. He made me feel at ease and he is an outstanding doctor.
