Staples???

This is a total curiousity question. (The differences never fail to amaze me). I hear people talking about staples?? I Have them on the inside, but only had tape on the outside. How many people had actual staples on the outside that have to be removed?? I can not imagine how weird that would be. I would think it would hurt, no?? Mine had strips of glued tape and then a saran wrap type very sticky tape (I related it to peeling skin after a sunburn, it was literally that thin) over the top of that which I got to remove after 1 week. What's your story??

I had staples. 6 different incisions each with 3-4 staples. They were badges over them and they didn't hurt at all. They came out in 10 days and I didn't even feel it when the doctor took them out as we were carrying on a conversation and he said "done" and I thought "WOW"! Hugs, Julie

Hmm. I have stitches under the skin which do not need to be removed and a surgical glue over top which will slowly disappear on its own. So nothing further is required by the Dr. I had laproscopic surgery though, maybe you had open? Each doctor really does his or her own thing, too, I guess. There is no right or wrong way. And I guess it is possible that each Dr. has to reevaluate for each individual as well. All of our bodies and skin could require different things. Emily 1 week/ -10lbs

My bad, I do not have staples under the skin, I mean my pouch is stapled. That was all. I was really just curious.

Sorry, I totally misunderstood and thought you had staples in your skin. I think we all probably have the staples in our pouches. I just find it interesting how many different ways there are for these Dr.'s to close incisions, etc. Warmly, Emily

Hey Kristie I had 27 staples on the outside of my stomach and had to have them removed. My surgeon put a skin glue on top of the staples. When I got them removed, it didn't hurt. The only thing that did hurt was having to pick off some of the glue to get the staples out. I just closed my eyes and thought about Disney World. Kay

Hi Kristi! I was wondering the same thing. The only place I had staples is to make my new pouch. I have the disovleable stitches and sterile strips over the the incision. Which the sterile strips have fallen off now. Which is what the surgeon said I should do, just let them fall off and if they arent off in two weeks go ahead and take them off. -Sue 242/224/130

Hi Just thought I would put in my two cents..lol I am currently sitting here with 37 staples holding my incision closed as I anxiously await Monday the 6th to roll around so I can go and get them removed! They dont hurt they just get itchy from time to time. I had open rny on the 23 and have to leave my staples and G tube in until Monday! Damn that monday cant come fast enough lol Crystal 265/250/135

What do the staples look like - real staples? I just saw my itemized hospital bill and 75% of the costs were staples. Yep. I was lap, too, but I guess we're all full of them as they were used to connect the old stomach and create the new pouch and the Y for those who had RNY. Very interesting. Everything else on the bill seemed like extras and I was surprised that the core costs were staples. When I go for my one month I've asked to see what these staples look like because I am also quite curious..........

I was lap, had staples on top of the skin holding these babies closed. Also had two drains. Had these removed this past Monday. Staples felt like little ant bites, nothing bad. Drains....that's a whole other story. Kim
