Emily, I too am having the same difficulties at night. My nerves seem to be jumping at night when I am laying there in bed.My whole body seems to be alive with energy, but not a good kind of energy. I am going to try to get an appointment with my PCP today. I cant stand it! Cathy

You should definitely get an appt with your PCP. I came back from the Dr. today and she was really concerned. She said that I am taking a lot of B-12 and that this particular vitamin revs up the nerves. So she thinks I am overstimulating my nervous system and causing an flare up of a disorder that I have had small, rare occasions of. As for the vitamin deficiency, she says that it would take at least 6 weeks for me to start to show a deficiency in some area, so that it can't be an iron deficiency (which is quite often the culprit). So for right now, she says that I need to stay away from the B-12 until 1 week from Sunday, and then only take 1000mcg per week, not every other day and we'll see if that helps. It is a work in progress. Also, since I have the lortab and a script for Xanax (both which can be beneficial for RLS) she says I should medicate using those two drugs, (not necessarily at the same time, although she says it won't harm me****il next week when the B-12 could have been flushed out and then see where I stand. She is going to hold off on prescibing anything else since I already have meds that support this disorder and we know that my body reacts well to them. So good luck to you and be sure to metion not just what meds you take but also what supplements and in what doses and how often. Emily 347/315/160

I'm also having the same problem. I thought maybe it was because of the naps so I stopped and still RLS. I caught the tale end of a commercial for a drug that helps with RLS but of course my 3 year old ran up to the TV and turned it off just as the name was being announced. I live in Canada so the chances of this drug (whatever it is) being available for me right now is probably pretty slim but you'll probably have a better chance. Hopefully you won't have to resort to the drug and maybe it is a simple solution of increasing your vitamins but at least you know there is something available. Good Luck and keep us posted! I posted to another response above, so please read that as well. Basically, it is not a deficiency at this point, more like an overabundance of B-12 (or at least that is what she thinks, we are testing the theory). There is a drug she mentioned, I believe it starts with an "R," but there are also more common drugs that have some benefit such as benzodiazepans (sp) such as Xanax, Diazepan, etc. (basically drugs for anxiety), and opiates such as Lortab, etc. And since I currently have a script for Xanax and a bottle of Lortab left from surgery, she says I should medicate with that until the B-12 is flushed out of my system and then we'll see if it is better and reevaluate. Try to get to the Dr. because I know how torturous it is and it really will affect you during the days as well. Emily

Emily, I had surgery on the 4th of Jan. Around the 17th for about 2 weeks I had a similar problem. My legs were not "Jumpy" but boy did they ache. I finally realized it was my body saying, "yes exercise, but take it easy" Doing alot during the day made my legs a nightmare at night. So try taking it a litle bit easier during the day.. Maybe you are just pushing yourself too hard!! Take it easy, Michelle

Ok take a deep breath...I have RLS. I have had it for years. Talking to you PCP is the first step. If you never had this prior to the bypass then your body is telling you something and they need to know. If there is anyway possible you need to be left alone to sleep whenever your body will let you. If there is one thing I have learned is you can't fight your body. Work with it. Get a massage, go for a swim, walk a simple walk. Don't over do it yet you are not ready. Elevate your legs when yu sleep and breath. When I figured out I am not superwoman, my tremors slowed down. And I tell my family to leave me alone and let me sleep when I am asleep. Good luck with your PCP. Try this it is cheap and weird but it worked on so many nights for me. Put a bar of soap at the foot of your bed under your sheet, anything but the green ones and Dial. Deborah
