Did You Work Your Wiggles Today?
I went to the Y this morning and worked out for about 2 hours.
Then we went boating with some friends off to a private island in the gulf and spent the whole day there. We didn't get home until almost 8pm.
We swam, fished and walked along the beach there! I laid out and got some sun too. So maybe this day counts as exercise?
Have a great night!
Hugs,
Julie

hi faith:
great question. i'll be reading the responses with interest.
my surgeon has NEVER, EVER mentioned a goal weight. i did go on the post op planner on this sight and am very close to what they project as a result of wls. i still have another 90 lbs or so before i would be considered normal. whatever that is. and i'm just thanking God i've been able to come this far, this fast.
have a great week.

My surgeon never set an exact goal weight. He said I would be lucky to get to 200-220, but that I would be much healthier than I was at 416.
Another surgeon said that I should weigh 135!
Talk about opposite ends of the spectrum!
Some just seem to go the old formula of height/age/weight. Some just use our BMI, which I personally think is a bit skewed. Depends on the individuals' opinions and what they perceive as "healthy" I guess.
I too will be curious to see other responses as well.
Huggs,
Ruth

Dear Faith,
My surgeon put my goal weight at 170 as well but stated it more as, "I think you could lose down to ...." For my height, that puts me at "just" overweight rather than obese. I have been severely overweight most of my life, so I don't think I could ever make the insurance chart weight. Perhaps those who are younger could.
I suggest you start by looking at your percentage of excess weight lost. The statistics suggest a 40% to 70% loss after 5 years is the typical success range. You don't mention your height, which makes a difference. If you are 5"6', 145 is a normal weight. So that means you had an excess of 205 lbs. You have lost 152 lbs. or 74% of your excess weight. Which is great.
What has your surgeon said about goal weight or looking into plastic surgery? PCPs and surgeons have different perspectives and concerns.
They are the ones who can give you the best information.
Good luck,
Sally
Hello Faith,
My doctor never gave me a goal weight. When
I went to see him at my one year he said I looked
great and asked me if I still wanted to lose more.
I said yes and he said what is it with you peole
(he had a big smile on hs face) once ya'll look good
ya'll want to keep on going.
In order for me to have a normal bmi I would have to
get down to 154. I don't know if I could get down that
low. I'm in 12's and really want to be a 10. If I did get
down to 154 that would mean I would have lost 225
pounds. I don't want to look sick. Some people I think
get too skinny and don't look healthy.
Good luck and have a great day,
Diana

greetings faith
my surgeon never mentioned a goal, either. i asked him about it at my one-year appt. i'm 5'10", starting weight was 463. he said he thought 210 would be a good goal, as i'm carrying LOTS of excess skin.
i'm at 214 today, but i REALLY want to get to "onederland", so i'm shooting for 190-195, then i'll think about how i could possibly pay for plastics!
best to you!

Hi Faith!
I'm 5'7", and weighed 442 to begin with and am down now to 249. Looks like we're Surgery Month Buddies!
My original surgeon didn't mention a goal weight to me, and neither did my present BS initially. About 6 months out, he looked at a chart and pronounced 150 lbs to be my goal weight, and I'd be totally happy with that, but I've upped it myself to somewhere between 160-175, because I want to be realistic (for now). Maybe when I get to that weight, I'll see the 150 as where I need to be
... who knows(?) ... for now I'd just be happy to be under 200 like you are. Congratulations!!!
!
Myra
