16 days till surgery day!
Thanks for replying! My pre-op is (4) 200 calories protein shakes per day plus all the non-starchy veggies I want (nothing on them except lemon or lime juice, salsa, cooking spray), broth, sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello, diet drinks..
I know I can do it. I am just freaking out a little and just need to hear from people who have done it. and talk to people who "get it"! For example - my husband asked me when I had to start the pre-op diet - I told him Thursday. Literally 5 minutes later he asked me if I wanted to go to a restauraunt we were wanting to try for Valentine's Day!!! UGH!
Please tell me how you are doing. What was your start weight/height/BMI? I am 5'3 3/4" and my weight is around 254 (my highest ever). Did you lose a lot on the pre-op diet?

Dear Kim,
All valid feelings --- I had no idea how great I would feel post op...I went shopping on the way home from the hospital two days post op...my doc told me to go to the mall and walk to avoid blot clots and I did just that! I am on cloud 9 and so excited about the future....AND no more blood pressure or cholesterol meds, depression lifted (I gained most of my weight taking meds for post traumatic stress) and finding the diet pretty easy....
...during the pre op, I did a lot of protein shakes (Atkins and EASadvantage mixed with coffee in big mugs; salads, pots of veggies (non starchy) cooked overnight in the crock pot with chicken broth and/or V8 and then pureed with the Braun wand blender; had an out of body experience trying veggies I usually don't eat but were "legal" per my docs pre op - protein shakes (3-4) day and non starchy vegetables then clear liquids day before surgery (that's when you realize that sugar free jello is the "new lobster" and crystal light the "new champagne"....
...I did have to go to a dinner party during week one of pre op and ate a small piece of fish, salad and veggies and was fine....my doc said that as long as I showed up minus 5-10 lbs at surgery he really didn't care how I got to it but the pre op keeps it idiot proof during a stressful time and most of us are stress eaters....after my dinner out, I went right back on the pre op minus a hot dog bite at Trader Joe's one day during week one...post op I refuse to vary from the plan, taking it seriously.
Good luck and check out www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com if you aren't already reading Shelly's blog and recipes - she has good ideas and is funny!
