This is a great idea, Connie. I wish we could adapt this to our Board! I'd love to participate, it would be a real motivator for me and provide some much needed support. Good luck with this! M.

Topic: Marchers!
Today I was thinking about all of my March friends.
I'm amazed that over 5 years ago we all pretty much started reading and writing on this board. the impressive part is WE ARE STILL DOING IT!
sure we've lost a few over the years. Maybe they are replying on other boards. Maybe their lives are so busy they just don't get a chance to log on anymore. Or they just lurk and respond to something that works for them.
But we have a hard core group of us who writes here almost every week.
O there are some of us who when we lose our computers well it might take us a while to get back but when we get the chance we do.
We are a strong board,.
A great group.
Friends who know just what the other one is saying when they say wow I had half a hambuger today and was so full! Or geesh gained a pound I'm fat! Fat at half the size most of us once were.
but we understand.
Thank you all for being right here when I've needed you.
thank you all for reading and replying to my posts.

Baseball is odd.
We went to a game last night. the coach was on the side line. i thought he was having fits. slapping his leg rubbing his ear picking his nose. tapping his tummy. i turned to my boyfreind and said when are they going to get the medic for that poor guy???
I guess you can tell that i am not a sports fan...
I'm still glad that i had the surgery too.
I know we are very different now than others. Oh well. but there are alot of ways that i'm thrilled with how i am like others. i like blending.
what i don't like is the medical parts.
i am glad that alot of the issues that i have are not related. if i had not had the problems with low blood sugar in the past i would right off the bat after reading everything nbelive that was teh cause of it. We are prone to it after surgry. Even my doctor A has paperwork he gave me when i went to him about it. so even he now admits that it can be a down side. soooo i'm sure there are other things that i do not have a clue about.
its kind of like if you read the precaustions on the medicine labels to watch out for taht some people can get this or that issues but if you dont' take the meds then you have to suffer. weight and measure not only our foods but those things too.
i guess it bothers me taht there isnt anyone who posts to these forums that are 10 years out. so what happens after 10 years? do you disapear or do you get another surgery?
what i do now when people ask me what i think about the surgry i tell them research research rsearch. And know that there are issues that you can get but you might not. I tellthem to KNOW that you will gain some of the weight back.
I really really do believe that the 20 that i've gained back is minor as much as i'd love to be able to wear my size 6's and 8's again thats probalby not in the cards. But if i behave and do what i am suppose to right to the letter i might be able to lose 10 of that 20 and maybe wear my size 10's again.
I'm not geting rid of those unti i turn 60!!! Hey at that age they will be out of style. plus tht gives me 4 more years to work hard.
arggggggg
that acai berry juice has alot of sugar in it. people swear by it but i give you credit i can't stand the taste!

Topic: Biggest Loser - The Stoma Wars
Before I found out about my large gaping stoma, I signed up for a Biggest Loser contest at work. To join is 5.00. Every week, you pay a dollar. You weigh in every week and if you've gained, you pay a dollar for every pound you gained. At the end of 12 weeks, the 4 Biggest Losers split the pot. The winner usually gets at least a hundred bucks. Today is my first official day as a Loser.
There are people at work who have been doing this for years. They don't need to lose any more weight and they never win the pot, but they tell me that the thought of having to pay money if they gain weight keeps them on the right path. If you don't gain anything, the cost for 12 weeks is 17.00. That's cheaper than Weigh****chers or most other programs. This is the most effective system I've ever seen for maintaining weight loss. I never looked into it before because, after all, I've had weight loss surgery. I shouldn't need something like this. Maybe swallowing my pride will plug that hole in my stoma.
I talked to one woman who is a Loser and has lost a ton of weight over the last year and looks fabulous. I asked her what diet she was on and she said none. All she did was stop drinking all soda, eat her largest meal at the beginning of the day and stop eating fast food. Other than that she eats anything she wants.
I wonder how I'm going to do this contest and battle the stoma. I don't want to quit the contest. If nothing else, it's worth 17.00 to be more conscientious about my eating. Stoma, stoma, stoma. Maybe this explains why there are some incredible gurgling noises coming from my belly 1/2 an hour after I eat. One night The Man and I are watching a movie on his fabulously large television with a surround sound system that makes you think you're at your local movieplex. I think Bruce Willis was battling something or other and there are lots of bam, pow, bang noises rumbling through the speakers. The Man turns up the sound. Why'd ya do that? I can't hear the TV over your stomach. Alrighty then.
Last night I was starving before bed. I'd eaten dinner, I didn't want to eat before bed. I've been eating in my sleep very often. New strategy - call me crazy. Desperate measures for desperate times. I ate three pork rinds, but I didn't chew them very well. I swallowed a bunch of water. The pork rinds absorbed the water, reconstituted themselves into a full grown pig in my belly and kept me full long enough to fall asleep. I didn't sleep walk and get any food that I know of. By the way, I'm not taking any sleep aids so this sleep eating thing isn't caused by any pill side effect.
I ate breakfast 1/2 an hour ago. An egg and a slice of lean ham. I was full when I finished eating, but now I think I'm starving. I know I'm not. Shut up down there!
I read an article in, I think, Time that said that working out is actually causing people to gain weight. http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1914857,00.ht ml. Well isn't that grand?
OK, off to bottle my Limoncello that I've been brewing for the last 5 months. Home made Christmas gifts. Call me bootlegger.

The next step is to do that swallow the capsule thing to look at my small intestine. The most pressing issue is to find out why I had 14 pints of blood in April and now I only have 10. I just did some iron labs and the results of that should be back next week. If I am severely deficit in iron, probably ferrous transfusions are up next. Doc doesn't think an iron deficiency is causing all this, but who knows. After the capsule and iron labs, I'm not sure what the next steps are. After that, I don't know. My back surgery is canceled because of this. At first I was bummed, but I think postponing surgery is wise. I understand that you can't even wipe your own butt after this back surgery and I'm so tired wiping is a chore now, I can't imagine after being sliced and diced.
You're right about taking vitamins and supplements and still having issues. I am a zealot about taking my vitamins. It sounds crazy, but every morning I take 4 gummy vitamins and I take 4 more at night. On the weekends, I throw in 4 more during the day. I also take a women's multi with extra iron in the morning. Add in 2000 ui of Vitamin D, and 1000mg of Acai for good measure. I also take a 25000 mg B-12 every day. Surgeon said once a week was fine, but I noticed that I felt better if I take it every day. It's water soluble so you can't really get too much. At least I don't think you can. I probably take enough vitamins to sustain 4 normal people. What I don't take often is calcium. I know that's going to come back and bite me in the ass, but I don't want to add more kidney stones to the mix.
Still.... All the resulting health issues aside, I'm still glad I had the surgery. I thought about that the other day. My back didn't get better, I'm anemic as hell, I haven't had a soda in 6 years, I can't take the NSAIDS that would probably give me a lot of pain relief. I'm still glad I did it. I have to believe that my back would be a 100 time worse if I was carrying round another 130 pounds. I like not sleeping with a CPAP machine (hated that thing). I like shopping for clothes in regular sizes. I like the fact that what would have been one meal will now feed me for 3 or 4. The good definitely outweighs the bad.
What was the benefit of closing up your stoma? Do you think it's made a difference? How did it help? Addressing the stoma issue is on my long list of things to take care of:
Resolve the anemia
Back surgery
Close the stoma
Cure the common cold
World peace
Universal Health care
Figure out why baseball is the only sport where managers wear a uniform instead of a suit
Lots to do. So little time.

Totally understand.
You know there is always that first love that we think about. Years ago after my divorce I looked up my first love. We chatted on line and sent photos of each other. this was pre surgery. But i'd not changed in looks since high school cause i was big then. But man oh man had he changed! i still woudl think of him as he was in high school. Silly me didn't stop to thnk that he was the same age and woudl have aged too!
But now he was bald! And heavy! worn glasses!
I do not belive he would have fit in his old uniform.
i'm waiting now to see if he finds me on Face book hahaah he'd not think it was me caues i've changed in looks so very much as i'm sure he as too. Maybe now he's gotten some fake hair?

So, what's next in terms of trying to find out the source of the leak??? Your post reminds me that this WLS replumbing is a lot like how our cars works; if we don't put gas in, they don't go; if we don't replace the oil, the car gets 'sick' - it's not a matter of blaming everything on the surgery, it's a matter of understanding that when the body isn't getting what it needs, it's going to start getting sick, shutting down... if blood results are showing a lack of anything that we need to properly function in a healthy way, then it stands to reason that the body is going to respond accordingly. Malabsorption is a certfied absolute consequence of this surgery. What is a mystery to me is why (for some of us) we cannot absorb the necessary elements when we are vigilent about daily vitamins, caloric intake, protein, etc., etc. I can understand this being the case for people who are not doing what they are supposed to, but why are we still not absorbing that which we are taking in??? if our bodies have been deficient for more than 5 years, doesn't it make sense that they will start getting sick??? I was never anemic in my life before this surgery - I am now; why??? Why are you??? Here's a thought: I was scoped 2 years ago and my stoma was very dilated - the food was going right through, like yours. Common sense tells me, then, that I'm not absorbing a thing in nutrients! I would reconsider getting this looked at, Connie, because getting the stoma closed up again might be the very anwer to your health ailments! What do you think? What about anyone else?? Be well, Connie. M.
