Boy I don' t blame you for being down. Back pain is the worst. I had a ruptured disk years ago that laid me up for a long time. Even now I baby that thing. I don't let anyone tell me that I can do something I know that I can't. What surprises me are the number of people who will say to me O you can do this or its not heavy.
NO WAY! I know my limits. There is no way I will take a chance on hurting that thing again. The funny thing is the last time I had injured it was due to a small little sneeze that caught me unexpectedly when i was getting up from the floor in a difficult position (yoga) I didn't have time to get into a postion to protect my back and boom that laid me up for a few weeks.
While mine is painful it is no where near what you are going through.
Your in my prayers.

Thanks Reenie, I think maybe this is the reason I am still unemployed. Must get this fixed prior to going back to work. I sure don't want to become paralyzed from anymore damage. Thanks for the good thoughts. I will let you know when I get a
surgery date. Will be working on getting my labs better until then.

Marilyn, if I've learned anything in my old age, the only constant in life is change. We are getting older, pure and simple. Do whatever it takes to take care of yourself. Best of luck with all of this and keep us posted. God bless, Maureen

HI Judy
Glad you are back to work, but, do't let those stresses send you to that McDonalds all
the time. Hopefully you have got that out of your system & was just a fleating thing.
Mc D's is soooo dangerous for us. Hang in There & next week will be better for you.
NOt only did I have 3 flat tires, I had to buy 2 new ones as they could not fix them.
I pretty much no who did it, & guess what Not talking or seeing him ever again after
this trick. Not a good thing. Had to use the power bill money to buy the tires. & Still
very Mad when I think about it.

Thanks Kim
I thought i was coping O.K., but, Not really, had a bad night & about 9:30 last night
just fell apart. I guess it all hit finally that this is not going away on it's own & yes, most
likely surgery. I am goin to try & get in and see my Pastor today & get a better handle
on all of this. Don't have a sole to talk to about any of this & that is the hard part.
My roommate can;'t be bothered thinks I am being a child. Any surgery is scary &
this is my back we are talking about. He wasn't there much for the past 5 yrs after
the RNY, so why would I think he would be here for this one. Might even stay with
a friend for my recovery process away from the stress.

Hi There
Just came from the Spine Doc & looks like Back surgery is in my future.
Not something I want, but, does not appear to be any other option. I
have a compression fracture at my T8 & T9 Vertabrae area. He will need
to fill the area with cement to keep from the fracture from getting
worse & possibly paralyzing me. Then after the area is filled with the
cement put pins & a bar to stablize the area. prpobaly a week in hospital. the
other surgery is a 6 hr surgery & because of my diabetis
too risky. So this is option 2 & only a hour surgery. This is most likely caused
from osteoperosis which I will have a dexa scan to tell
me how bad that is. I am not looking forward to this, but, if I want to keep
walking & standing will have to do something to stop this from
colapsing. I saw the MRI pic's & does not look good at all. He also
said the Chiropractor in San Diego that did my Adjustment before I left
& moved back here, probably helped big time in this fracture becoming
this bad. I don't have any proof, so can't sue, but, sure wish I could.
I was in so much pain from that adjustment & knew he had done something
wrong back then, I have not been the same since. Will let you know more when I
here when this surgery will come about.  I also wen to my regular PCP yesterday &
my Iron is back in the toilet. My iron sat was 13 & ferritin 9 so back on iron script
as soon as I pick up from pharmacy. (does not look like insurnace will cover)
My b-12 was low as will, so have upped that starting today & will have it recheckd
in a few months.

Hey Reenie
Don't feel like the lone ranger here, I just got my blood test results & iron levels are in
the toilet as well. Protien is good, but, iron is way low & she just put me on iron script
plus anti-biotic for mild kidney infection. Don't want or need that to get out of control
again. I go tomorrow to find out about the spine trouble & results of the MRI on that.
My kidney problems are from the advil & tylenol I was taking for so long when hurting.
Hang in there & feel better.

I am not sure about WLS causing the liver damage.  Yes, it may not have showed in bloodwork pre surgically.  I, for one, cannot blame every ailment I have on the surgery.  I am slightly anemic...but I always was, even as a child I had a low white count.  I take iron every day.  I think the years of being obese takes a toll on us when we age, even though we lost the weight.  Lets face it...the older we get, the more things are likely to go wrong.  I am bloating too...I am on Lasix..but I don't think it has anything to do with the surgery...my mother always had a problem with fluid retention, and I probably inherited it from her.  Is your liver in such a condition that you are seeing a specialist?   Did the doctor specifically tell you that it is cirrhosis?  It may not be as serious as you think, if they didn't tell you to get to the doctor immediately.  I had blood work a few months ago.  The anemic thing came up, which we knew about, so we upped the iron slightly.  Everything else was fine.  I have not seen my WLS doctor in a while, but my primary told me he would be in touch with him if need be.  I had an abnormal mammogram, had to have testing done.  I had a dialated milk duct and calcifications.  I know that isn't because of WLS....the thought didn't even enter my mind.  I am sure you are going to be fine...just follow up and do what you need to do to take care of yourself.
Take care,
Joanie
