Hi Maureen,
So sorry to hear about the liver problems and the possibility of cirrhosis.  My brother had cirrhosis and it wasn't pretty.  His was caused by alcoholism.    I also have a friend at work, who has not had WLS, but lost about 35 pounds through Weigh****chers, who has sky high liver counts.  She is not a drinker abet social only on occassion.  Her doctor first tested her for Hepatitis (came back negative for A, B &C) and an MRI of her liver.  They have determined that she has a virus that has caused her liver counts to be so high.  She got nauseated last week and went in and had her labs again.  When her counts are up, she feels poorly.  It is just a matter of letting the virus run it's course.  She still has a few more tests to be run.

How are you doing otherwise?  I hope you are taking flying lessons or at least reading the book..:)!  Have a ball at your reunion; they will be so psyched to see how beautiful you are!

Hugs,
Karen

I'm allergic to the regular flu shot.  I had one over 40 years ago and I was out of work for a week. Then about 15 years ago I had one, I thought they might have changed them. But, I was so sick I didn't eat anything for three days. I don' t rememeber much about that weekend. My arm swelled from my shoulder to my elbow.  So,  I don't  take  any shots. I hope and pray  none of get it. I don't get out in the school when I come in close contact with the kids. There is ususally a serving line between me and them, but I'm sure if it gets in the school it won't matter if I've been close to one or not.
I'm really going to try hard to stay on the South Beach Diet . My cashier at school needs to lose about 100 pounds, so maybe we can do it together. Friday , she said let's don't tell anybody what we're doing and just try real hard to do it together. So, I'll try to post what I eat next week.
I hope you can do it too.  Judy

God has given me this day to use as I will. I can waste it or use it for good. Today is very imporant, because I'm exchaning a day of my life for it.

Judy I've missed your posts but figured you were very busy with work and getting back into it. It was so nice to open up the computer this morning and see your post!
Stress is hard for anyone don't we all know it! but with our systems the way they are now we are prone to more problems when we get stressed than others. so take good care of yourself.
good to hear your going to plan your meals too. Thats a big key. I carry a good size cooler in my car with snacks and my meals. I' mon the road all day so if I do not plan then I have to buy and if I buy I' mnot going to eat right. That little cooler keeps my cottage cheese better than my fridge! hahaah I like it when the cottage cheese isn't frozen but firm.
I've been wondering about this whole swine flu thing. Of course when the regular shots come out I'm going to get mine but my concern is that with the swine flu its going to go to the people who need it like kids, preganat women and people with health issues like dieabeties and the elderly.
I'm going to talk to my doctor cause I think that we with our systesm the way they are are prime candiates for that shot.
The guy that sits next to me at work lives in a town Glastonbury just a couple over from mine. His wife had swine flu. She was sick couldn't get better went to the docs and they tested her. She came back positive. She was one of the people that they talked about on TV, she was lucky and didn't have any other illnesses. She was sick for 3 weeks! she lost alot of weight, she's small to begine with. she said that it was like geting the mega flu that would not go away. For 3 weeks she just could not eat nothing would stay down or in. she was out of work all that time. the odd thing was no one in the family got it but her!
they had gone to a kids ball game and they think that she got it there cause there were some kids who came down with it too.
I know all of us are worried. I worry caues with the LBS I have to eat or I get sick. I dont' even want to think about getting a flu where you can't eat! Then its also easy to go into pnomonia.
Can you imagine my freinds wife had a mild case???
so if those flu shots come available get em!

Topic: Back to work!!!
I have had a week of stress! I worked Monday , worked 14 hours on Tuesday and we had to have a furglough day on Wednesday. The big BOSSES said NOBODY (teachers, para pros, custodians or nutrition staff) could go inside the school !! I really needed to work and I would have done it without pay, just so I wouldn't have been so stressed out on the first day of school, Thursday. Today was good, but I'm already 2 days behind with my reports. But the computer "stuff" coming from the Central Office is always messed up for days when school first starts, I decided to wait for a few days , so I wouldn't  do anything that I'd have to do over again.
I have not done good on my eating. Tuesday I eat 3 chicken tenders and some slaw at 11, then didn't eat again till 8:30 that night, I came by McDonald's , which is new, and right next to my house. We even have our own turning lane that starts at our drive way!! Tonight I went to McDonald's , too!!  So , tomorrow is a new day, again. I'm going to cook chicken for all next week, so I'll have my meals aready fixed and I can just stick it in the microwave.
I have read every body's post  and I've got mad about the flat tires and I've laughted about the animals and my heart has melted just reading about the love you all share with them. I've thanked God that we have  come this far and that you all are my friends!!  And I've prayed about the health problems of  you and your famlies. I tell my sister about y'all and she feels like she knows you all!!  Love to all of you!  Judy

God has given me this day to use as I will. I can waste it or use it for good. Today is very imporant, because I'm exchaning a day of my life for it.

wow...I hope its nothing serious ...I have never heard anything so far as to WLS causing liver damage...Im curious to see what might be the cause. As for your anemia...are you taking iron supplements with your multi vitamin if so take them at different times cause the multi can hamper the effect of the iron supplement...I take 2 iron supplements daily along with my multi at different times of the day..seems to work. Oh also got my  latest blood work back and my Vit D level is up from a severe low of 12 to 63...YEAHHHHHH!!!!! I have been taking 50,000  of the dry form d-3 twice weekly and boy did it make a difference my bones dont hurt no more and I feel great. I tell you if you are ever given the gell form from your doctor...they DO NOT work...we dont absorb the gell ones...get the dry form. Everyone get your yearly blood work done and faithfully take your supplements!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, and welcome to our board. My doctor (PCP, not my WLS surgeon) believes that the damage was most likely caused as a result of living more than 3 decades as a super morbidly obese person; I weighed between 340-400 lbs. most of my adult life. My doctor thinks that my liver became encased in fat, which causing scarring, which leads eventually to cirrosis of the liver - a life threatening disease. However, my routine blood work prior to my surgery do not show these troubling indicators - so I believe his theory is not very reasonable. I suspect he is trying to make me feel better, less frightened - that's the kind of doctor he is, and friend to me. I am going to ask for further testing to rule out Hepititis C, and probably a liver biopsy to gauge the level of cirrosis, if this is what's going on. Are you just now considering surgery? Ask any questions you need answered - this is one of the finest group of people you will find on these boards - take care. Maureen

Malabsorption still rules the day for us, folks, even so far out. Get your bloodwork done! My results show: first and foremost, liver damage - still, and I'm afraid the next step is a biopsy; cirrosis is not a good thing at all, not a good thing - next, tests show anemia, which is probably why I am bloating, like Connie reported. My protein level is quite low, although I am ingesting at least 60 grams a day. But it's quite low. I'm seeing my regular doctor in two weeks, my WLS surgeon in September. Mostly worried about the liver - Connie, what are you doing for the anemia? M.
