I am having RNY Monday woohoo! If you have sleep apnea don't forget your cpap machine, any prescriptions that you take on a regular basis also, and yes, bring that favorite pillow too! Good Luck on your surgery and my prayers are with you for a speedy and successful recovery! Kathy V

Hey Elisa
Congratulations! What a great way to start the week! ;)
I loved having one of my own pillows from home with me in the hospital. I wore the hospital gown during my stay, but wore my own socks and a loose-fitting pair of supportive shoes (birkenstocks). My hair is a little long, so I brought a scrunchie to keep it up and out of my face. Toothbrush, hairbrush, deodorant, very loose fitting clothes to wear home. I asked the nurse for some baby wipes to help me feel a little cleaner after some of the initial bowel movements since I wasn't able to shower right away. I brought a book and some magazines, but didn't read any. I watched a lot of tv and visited with family and friends. Some people on the floor brought puzzles.
Good luck and please keep us posted on your progress. You will do just fine!

Here there and congrats! I had my RNY last Tuesday and will be the one doing cooking form time to time. I used to do all of the cooking but then told hubby had to do more after my surgery just so I wouldn't be as tempted. Honestly though, the temptation just isn't there. Especially right after surgeyr you are too tired and doped up to do it anyway and then you know that you can't eat or you will hurt yourself if you do it before your tummy heals. There is a bit of will-power involved but for me it was just a fact that I don't eat what they do now. In the next few months I am going to try and incorporate foods that I can eat in the menu so that I can have at least some of what they eat also. Other times we'll just eat seperately but hopefully not most meals. You can still enjoy cooking but just can't lick the spoon like you used to because you won't even want to. Make sense?
Hope that helps and good luck Monday!
Sherry

Congratulations and good luck! I just had my surgery on Tuesday, and I feel pretty good considering. As for the hospital, make sure you have your insurance card and photo ID plus anything else they need for check in. I wore to the hospital a losse outfit which I could also wore home since you will change into a gown and be that way until you are discharged. The basics you would take for a quick overnight are good and they might have some things there too. I also brought my ipod, puzzle books and something to read but never really did those so it's up to you. I did bring a pillow from home in a colored case for comfort and to put over my belly in the car ride home. Other than that you will be fine unless you have something special you like to do or want to bring. They just don't recommend anything valuable or any jewelry since you won't be able to wear it anyway. Mostly you will be doped up and sleepy or just taking care of yourself, so it will go by quickly.
Good luck and post here to let us know how it goes!!!

Goodness Sakes! Dave, Sherry and Kat .. you all are just doing awesome! Keep it up!
I am a bit worried about what to try and eat when after next week. I think I will follow Sherry's lead and just be very very strict! I can only hope I have that succes after next week!
Congratulations to all 3 of you!

Hi. It is not uncommon to go through a big loss. Some are slower than other, but I have known a couple of people who lost 140lbs in 4 months after surgery. Just be prepared for the huge adjustment.
I also woke up the last two mornings with big losses of 4 pounds each day. I am being very strict with the diet which is helping. I hope to lsoe 30 lbs per month in the first few months but we'll have to see. I started at 313 in 11/13 with my surgery prep class and was 280 on the day of surgery - 33 just on my own and via the pre-op diet. We'll see where that leads.
Keep up the good work and take care of yourself!
Sherry
