Topic: RE: puree question??
Hello Danielle, I am 6 days out but have discovered some tasty acceptables. I have not started pureed meats, eggs, etc. but I have pureed cream of potato soup with skim milk and love it. Last night I had to have protein before the end of the day and didnt think I could hold another 8 ounces of liquid. I opened a SF chocolate jello pudding, dumped it into a small cup, and added straight to the pudding a scoop of Designer whey chocolate Protein mix......WONDERFUL!! Try that brand. It isnt really that expensive and comes in a variety of flavors including vanilla praline. I plan to buy more. Inside the lid of the can was a recipe for a chocolate peanut butter protein drink with skim milk........Ya just cant beat that. Good Luck to you, Pam

Hi Everyone!!! Sorry I didn't have a chance to write before now; but I stayed at my Mom's house for the first week after surgery. I had my surgery on Moday, the 12th. Everything went very well. I was discharged on Wednesday. The pain was very manageable. I have no complaints about the whole procedure. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Yesterday I went for my follow up surgeon's appt. He removed the drain. I am in heaven!!! Not only am I a loser, but I AM DRAIN FREE!!!!! Life is good. I get tired quickly, but I feel GREAT!!!!!! Getting the liquids, protein, and vitamins in gets easier as time goes on. I AM BLESSED!!!!! To those of you who are approaching your dates, you are in my prayers!!!!! It is well worth the efforts!!!!! Thank you all for the support that you have offered me. It really means alot!!!!! Barbara

Hi Kimberly Congratulations! You're on your way to becoming a big 'ole loser like the rest of us! ;) So...here's the deal. People are going to react to the surgery differently. Cherish those who support you and try not to be too hard on those who won't. Many of us go through a "omg what did i do to myself?" period shortly after surgery, but I assure you that once the pounds start melting off and you regain energy and start FEELING more alive, you'll feel as though you would undergo the same surgery 100 times over. I am 14 days out of surgery and down 19 pounds. I feel terrific! Everyone here at OH has been extremely helpful, supportive, and inspirational. Remember to ask questions, even if you think they're stupid. Ask your surgeon's staff questions, ask us questions here, ask ask ask! This was my first surgery ever (I'm 28) and it scared the hell out of me. Reading older OH threads really helped me feel organized and ready for this experience. Good luck to you and keep us posted on your progress! Nicole

Topic: RE: i am trying to find out some information on why you are required to do the south beach diet
Hi Gail I would have sent an email, but wasn't sure if the email address you provided was missing underscores or not. Not to sound like a broken record, but I'm sure you know from this board, alone, that different surgeons have different pre-op instructions. Mine asked that I lose 10% of my excess body weight, but didn't specify a particular diet. I met with the staff nutritionist to discuss how I planned to lose the weight, but that was about it. Perhaps your friend's surgeon feels the south beach method is a convenient (pre-packaged meals) and low-carb way to go? I can see how a protein-rich diet could potentially help with the transition in how our eating changes and Atkins is just too heavy on the meat. Who knows? As always, the best thing for your friend to do is ask the surgeon's staff questions. All of us here on OH can share our individual experiences, but they may not be in line with your friend's surgeon's expectations, ya know? I wish you and your friend good luck! Nicole

Hi Lisa Grrrr how frustrating!!! Don't give up! Lots of people go through hell with insurance companies for this surgery - you'll likely find a wealth of support here on OH. Try the "Insurance Help" forum and ask plenty of questions! Keep your head up, girlie...this is the beginning of a new you! Please let us know how the process is going and good luck! Nicole
