Thank you. It seems high to me too! I am going to check with the nut at my all day preop class on Tuesday. If I don't get a good answer from her, I'll check with my surgeon later Tuesday afternoon. Thanks for taking the time to respond and give such good advice. I really appreciate it! Take Care, Robin

Good that things went well with the surgery. Now it sounds like you just need to get instructions for what to do. Did your program give you anything in writing regaridng post-op diet and vitamins? We had to take a 10 week class and then got everything in print. My workbook says chewable multivitamins 2 times per day and B12 500mcg in the morning during the first 6 weeks. Then it's different but you need to contact your program about what, how much and when. We were not instructed to do tums at all. As for protein, phase 2 full liquids my program says 20mg a day, phase 3 is 40mg a day and phase 4 is 60 mg a day. Each program is a little different, but mine did not focus on doing protein the first week - just making sure to get fluids in to prevent dehydration. Call your program again to get the instructions clarified. Good luck! Sherry

Well, I would suggest maybe going to the emergency room at the hospital where you had the surgery especially if you start vomiting blood. How much are you drinking? It should be 1 ounce every 15 minutes. My surgeon also limits us to sugar free clear liquid plus broth, sf kool aid, sf diet snapple, sf tang,sf popsicles and sf jello for the first week after surgery. If you drink more then your stomache just can hold then you will vomit from overfilling it. If you are vomiting frequently, you probably are not getting enough fluids and could end up becoming dehydrated. Definately call your surgeon first thing in the morning if you don't go get checked out. Take care of yourself. Sherry

IMO you might talk to your doc about something like Prevacid Solutabs... works better and Reglan has a side effect of depression (not something we need to face when we're already so overwhelmed).

That is so great! Glad everything went ok. It's always good to hear how things for others in the hospital. How did it work for your son? Do you have other children? My surgery is Tuesday and I have 2 boys ages 3 and 6. It's so unusual to see anyone here who also has children who are young. How did you make it in the days before surgery? I am so hungry I can hardly stand it. Hubby went out to get some more broth which helps for awhile, but I would love something more now. I am just looking forward to surgery being over and getting back to eating something again. Kepe in touch! Sherry

I had laproscopic rny... 6 holes in my belly.... First day my heart rate was outrageous so they wouldn't let me outta bed (which really concerned me because everyone told me WALK WALK WALK~!!! and for them to not even let me out.. I thought I'm gonna have the worst recovery!!!!! After my 150+ heart rate laying in bed went down I went to a normal room and got released Friday morning.. (MY back was KILLING me from those beds! EEK!) So I"m home now, I don't feel awful, I've been keeping up with the liquid loretab. However, I forgot to write it down or ask.. *SHRUG* am I supposed to be working on my protein now?? What about any vitamins??? From what I read in my notes I should be taking the calcium tums.. and I don't have anything written about the protein.. (IM going to call tomorrow to find out for sure.. but... i feel stupid not knowing) Here I thought i knew it all SO far so good.. but I haven't Pooped!!! HEHEHE... I was so excited when I finally passed gas today!!! before its just been belching up a storm! HAHAHAHAH... When should i be a lil concerned about the poop?? I'm gonna tell them tomorrow also... I guess i just wanna know before i call them So far so good tho and I'm home (surgery was 2 hours from home).. so life is okay so far but I've only been home and alone for about 2 hours now thanks for all your support! danielle

Hi Michelle The fluids are super hard, I know! I'm 11 days out and try to keep a bottle or glass of water with me at all times. It's starting to get hot here in Arizona, so I feel more inclined to drink. Just keep sipping - it all adds up. It sounds like a silly game to play, but, psychologically, it worked for me to aim for clear urine. Haha Good luck and keep asking questions - OH is a wonderful resource! Nicole

Hi Jannell As you'll probably read, most doctors seem to have a different spin on after-care and diets. The way it was explained to me, I will need to take a protein supplement until I am able to reach 60-80 grams of protein with my food intake alone. I was told it usually takes between 1-3 months for that to occur and then I could discontinue the supplements. Using this info, I don't see how I could replace a meal with a protein supplement, as it would no longer be a "supplement" as it was intended and I would never reach my protein goals. As always, check with your doctor or nutritionist in the office. Protein for WLSers is extremely important, so be sure you have a clear understanding of how much you're supposed to get per day. Good luck! Nicole
