Topic: RE: Surgery on 3/13 now @ home recovering nicely!!
Wow, that is such a relief to hear! I also had surgery on 3/13. The first 2 days were a piece of cake. Then yesterday was a little hard, and today has been really tough. All of the things you mentioned...especially that desire to eat vs. feeling full of water. It is hard!
I'm just glad to hear that I'm not the only one, and that it gets better!

my surgery went well. I have to agree the liquids after are hard because your mind says you need to chew something. I actually have eaten yogurt, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs and different soups over the last few days and have had no problems. Hard to get all the water in and the protein shake tastes good but for some reason I have a hard time drinking it. You will do awesome with your surgery. Every day gets easier and easier. Haven't taken pain meds for four days and I feel pretty good, still get tired easily, but it is getting better.

all is well, except hard to do just liquids or two weeks post-op. I actually have eaten some soft foods, mashed potatoes, soups and scrambled eggs. I have done fine, but I get full really fast and if you ignore that feeling, it hurts. hard to get all the water in and the protein drink was fine the first week, but now if I look at it I feel nauseated. gotta go to GNC and get a protein that I take in one gulp because that shake can take hours and hours to get down and makes me feel sick. good luck with your surgery, you will do great.

I'll try the ideas you had. Thanks!

Topic: Anyone hear from Brenie?
Anyone hear how she's feeling?
I'm hoping she and others will feel good enough to meet up on Tuesday around lunch time, for a little while even, before I head out to Texas again.
Anyone?

Hoodia from Wal Mart helped with the appetite control, as did gallons of Wonton Soup broth and Hot & Sour soup broth
ALSO... Wal mart has a garlic & herb flavored chicken boullion cube... it works wonders!! And when you can tolerate it thicker, mashed potato flakes help make it a nice "cream soup" too.
Good Luck
BTW I lost 16 lbs in the 2 weeks liquids, sooo you do have something to look for
And I have something to be thankful for too, I finally met a doc that requires a LONGER liquid diet than mine... Dr. Orodyne in Louisiana requires 6 weeks liquids!!

Topic: RE: HELP, I am in Post op and struggling
Hi, I'd love to get to chat with you on the phone and compare some notes. I feel like you do. They say liquids, but it's so unknown what exactly what that means. I am looking for some tips. Would you be willing to talk to me about this?? I need all the support and advice i can get.
Thank you!

Hi Sadie
The VSG - Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, is the op where they remove about 2/3 of your stomach (usually via keyhole surgery) leaving only a small pouch, therefore removing a lot of the room you would normally be able to fill!! Some also say it removes a lot of the hunger feelings too...I guess time will tell!
I am not as prepared as I should be...i will probably leave things to the last minute and then panic - at least it will take my mind of the impending surgery!!
I will start looking at getting organised for the surgery and also for home, as while I am away I leave a husband and twin daughters who will still need to eat!!
Good luck and best wishes to you too!!
Take Care,
Amanda
Topic: RE: question....
My Protein drinks are my meals. I was instructed not to have any thing else except the vitamins. I asked my nutritionist for something with texture and she told me I could have a small square of swiss cheese. I am now 17 days out and had a scrambled egg for the first time today.
What are you eating for your meals?
I had RNY on 3-1-07 and have lost 22lbs so far.
