Hi Dave!
I'm sorry you had such a lousy time at the hospital! Is Jodell still planning on having her surgery. From the plethora of journals I have read on this site it is not uncommon for someone to feel like the wouldn't reccommend the surgery to anyone during the first few weeks. In fact one of my best friends mother had it last May (this is when I started thinking about it) and i saw her about two weeks after and she would not comment on if she would do it again..then I talk with her a month later and she said she couldn't believe she hadn't done it sooner!
Lets pray hard that you feel this way in a few weeks too!!! Just wait till those pounds start slipping away! My brother had his last August and he had SEVERE diabetes and major heart condition (he had a bypass on his heart about three years ago) he came out with flying colors and has now lost 100 lbs!!
You can do it!!! This is the HARDEST part! I say all this not knowing what you went through at the hospital I realize BUT I hope that you will feel better soon!!

It is exciting, isn't it? I'm having trouble falliing asleep at night thinking about it. I'm not scared but might be closer to the GO day. I spoke to my surgeon's office assistant today who told me I definitely won't want to go to work on 3/26 (the day before surgery) b/c I'll be busy cleaning out my system. Yikes! I've never bought or had an enema. A whole host of new experiences to come.
by the way, Necole, I used to live in the Fairfax area. Where are you having your surgery done? I'm in NJ now and am going to St. Barnabas.
Best of luck to all of us! I hope to melt like an ice cube in the sun. :)

I cannot wait. ANy suggestions for the first meeting with the dr? Please let me know. Thanks, Pier and have a great weekend!
Topic: Dave's home at last!
After a miserable 4 days in the hospital, I am finally home and feeling pretty good. My spirits are up, and liqids are going down!!! I was extremely miserable almost constantly in the hospital except when I was asleep. I finally requested a sleep pill for my last night, and had my first good night of sleep. I felt like I really had to be proactive in asking for nausia medicine and pain medicine. That is a bummer because I felt so crummy in those days following surgery. All in all, they did the test on my pouch, and it wasn't leaking, and we did some other tests as well while I was in the hospital.
Synopsis: glad to be home and feeling good. Not sure yet if I'll recommend the procedure to anyone with the information I have now. I know everyone's a little different, but my last 4 days have been pretty miserable.

Highly recommend a pic line!!!
I just got home from the hospital today, and I sure wished they had just installed a pic line for me. Evidently, it is a little practiced fact for obesity doctors to require a pic line be put in. I would definately request this to be done, as I had to have my IV infultrate (when your hand/arm gets all swolen up and must be repoked) 2-3 times while I was in the hospital. It was rare for them to find a vein on the first poke, and I considered myself to have good veins BEFORE the surgery process.
Topic: RE: HELP
here's a quick little trick that I know worked for someone else. If you have hotmail or yahoo e-mail and you "attach a photo" to an e-mail, it automatically converts it to a smaller size. Then if you send the picture to yourself in an e-mail and save it on your computer it will be smaller.
The trick to making this work is that you don't use the "attach a file button," but rather the "attach a photo" or picture button. If you use the attach a file button it will attach the larger picture, not down covert to a fewer pixels.
Another tricks lots of folks do is us their webcam. Most webcams take low resolution pictures which can easily be uploaded as your avatar!
Best of luck,
Dave

Topic: RE: date scheduled
I just got home from the hospital less than 2 hours ago, and Jodell is scheduled for March 27th. We will be traveling this journey together. I had OPEN RNY, and Jodell is scheduled for the same procedure on the 27th. I had a very upset stomach most of the time that I was in the hospital. It was the most miserable 4 days I've had in a long time. As a result, if I had to recommend this procedure to anyone today, you wouldn't get a thumbs up from me because I've been miserable.
That said, I am feeling great now that I am home, and my spirit is higher. I am able to drink small amounts of room temperature water without feeling sick. When I was in the hospital, friends and family tried to call me and I was so miserable I didn't even want to talk to them. Now that I'm home, that attitiude seems to have changed.

You might want to check with your surgeon. My surgeon uses a PICC line for every patient.
I had to go to the hospital the day before my surgery to have the PICC line inserted by the Radiological IV team. I wish they would have inserted it the day of surgery after putting a regular IV in me to knock me out. But who knows, your hospital may do that, but only your surgeon can tell you for sure.
Good luck with your surgery on Monday!!!

Christopher,
Congratulations and good luck on Monday! My surgery is Tuesday afternoon (possibly late morning depending on how things go with his earlier surgeries that day). Keep in touch!
