Topic: RE: PRE OP DIET/GOALS
Wow - the diets for the different surgeries as vastly different as the doctors are LOL! I am having lapband done and am on a 4 week pre-op diet myself!! Yuck at times but most times it is tolerable - this is my 4th day and I am sticking to it rigidly so far. I am on the VHP (very high protein) shakes twice a day and a reasonable (meaning measured and weighed lol) in the evening. Boy is my stomach making some awful sounds but I am not hungry amazingly enough. Good luck everyone with your diets - see you all on the losing side.

Thank you for responding. I work for Wake County and I have United Healthcare for my insurance carrier. Due to an exclusionary clause in the County's insurance policy, under "physical appearance" WLS is not covered. I have been on the OH's insurance site and saw where VR has helped some. I have requested information and had not been successful. Voc Rehab advised that they do not assist with WLS any more, due to a new policy, and in asking where on the site could I look for it, I was told that it is on there somewhere. I am in need of some assistance, other than seeking another job with perhaps the state, and using the State Health plan, I need this surgery done in order to continue to live. Thank you for any assistance that you can provide.

Yeah I've noticed not alot of people with wee-little-ones. Probably because it is difficult to have babies being morbidly overweight. I have a little miracle baby born premature (3lbs 1 oz). Nothing wrong with her is the biggest miracle. My husband took off a week to help out while I am in the hospital...then my surgery date was changed for a week and a half later so he had to take off another week. My daughter still might have to go to daycare a few days out of the week...which is fine...but its just alot of juggling and hussling around to get everything done. Everytime I clean up something or think I have something done before I have to go in for surgery my daughter tornado's through and demolishes everything. She takes her red hair and her terrible 2s very seriously!
My surgery is on Thursday too. Good luck ladies and hope to see everyone looking great on the losing side of life.

Topic: RE: PRE OP DIET/GOALS
Hi. Wow, doctors do so many different things. My diet is a 3 day sugar free clear liquid diet, so I am between the rest of you. With my surgery being Tuesday afternoon then I'll have to start the diet Saturday morning. I just hope I don't fall apart or something - I hear it can be pretty tough with vitually no calores. Hopefully i can make it with your inspiration!

Thank you for the post and inspiration. I have my surgery also on the 20th and am very nervous. I had been undecided about gastric bypass or lap band, but I think I am just going to do the bypass and give it up to God after that. I am praying for an easy surgery and recovery also. Thanks again!!!!

I am having surgery next week and am also going through the pre-op jitters. I am glad to see someone else with kids going through this. It seems like most people are older or not married or something. It's tough when you have little ones. We are getitng help from relatives also. No advice really but just hang in there and made sure you get everything done so you don't have any questions when the time comes. I am sure I'll be a mess come Sunday and Monday too.

Topic: RE: insurance pain...
It sounds like you need more documentation regarding your attempts to lose weight. It It sounds like the peer to peer situation would benefit you if your doctor does know your full history with weight loss and dieting and your struggle. I would give that number to your doctor and hopefully your doctor will be able to do it soon. I would guess that your husband has better documentation regarding diet history and/or has more issues but I could be wrong. Something about his history or current situation got him approved. In the meantime you should continue trying to diet and exercise so that you can show them that you are trying, and you might have to do it for awhile longer but not sure. I know that is what my doctor told me before I switched providers. Good luck!

Can you explain more about your situation? Voc rehab only provides assistance for vocational training, so they would not be able to help you with anything regarding weight loss surgery unless you became disabled as a result of the surgery. As for the county. do you work for the county or are you trying to get assistance from the county services? Do you have medical insurance? I am guessing that you don't and that is why you are looking for help, but it is not clear from your post. I will try and help you if I can with more information.

WOOOHOOOOOOO!
I can't believe how close I am to this! I just got off the phone with my husband and he said that he is getting nervous... I know I will be a little emotional once I am sitting in the pre-op waiting room before surgery. I have so much to do before Thursday - pack for my self and the kids (they are going to stay with the in-laws for a few days), pick up the house and do some cleaning, get a pedicure - I can't have ugly toes at the hospital!
Any advice to the pre-surgery jitters?
Amie
