Carol, I'm sending you all my best. Wishing you an easy recovery. Come back on the board to post as soon as you feel up to it. I'm going on the 19th, so it will be kind of neat to have a group that is going in around the same time frame. LOTS OF BLESSINGS! Diane

Topic: RE: PRE OP DIET/GOALS
I am nearing the end of the pre-op diet and I have lost 10 lbs... woo hoo! It is hard just doing liquids and cottage cheese... my dr. allows veggies (with nothing on them) or fruit... that helps you feel a little full and lets you ~CRUNCH~ on something. I like the Atkins Advantage shakes, they are a little less filmy tasting - the vanilla is the best. This pre-op diet has really allowed me to focus on making the right choices and only having a bite of something yummy instead of 3 servings... Good luck with your diet - remember - it is the end goal that keeps you going! Amie

I had RNY on 2/26. Since my pre-op diet that started 2/12, I have lost 27lbs. I wanted to post to let people know that there are alot of people who have this surgery and have no physical problems. It has been 2 wks since my surgery and I have not gotten sick on anything that I have eaten. (no stomach or bowel problems) (I have been told that I have a low tolerance for pain - - so I was concerned that having this surgery would be difficult for me.) I get my liquids in - and water tastes fine to me. I have started walking short distances and sleep about 9hrs at night -- still in "recovery". (Prior to surgery, I had been sleeping 7 hrs each night.) I am eating only protein for the first 4wks post-op - - mostly pureed, but I can eat fish without pureeing it. I have come up with a number of low-carb/low-fat sauces for my pureed meats. I miss eating veggies, but I am happy that I ony have 2 more weeks til I can eat them again. I wanted to post for the benefit of those of you who have not yet had the surgery to let you know that many people have an easy time after the surgery. The best advice I can give to you is to be at peace with your decision and relax. I made an effort to show my family that I was at ease with my decision and that put them more at ease. I am thankful to God that I am on the losing side and not struggling. Good luck to all of you who are having your surgery this month! Colleen
