Wow good for you! I found out that after that initial sick feeling you know after the 2 or 3 bites and u feel like hurling, Well, I found that if you take your time and just wait a few minutes that you can eat some more, then a little more, before you know it 45 minutes has passed and you have eaten your meal. Try it. it really works! Down 100 pounds, had surgery March 2007. Good Luck, let me know how this works out for you! Kathy V.

I have had the same thing going on. My surgery was on 3/5/07 and this last month I only lost 4 pounds. I have been up 2 down 2 for 3 weeks & I am too getting frustrated. I know that I am doing everything right and exercising, so it has to eventually start moving again. It is good to hear that others are going through the same thing- I thought I was the only one going crazy about this! Lets all keep on with the good work! Janna

Alyssa- go to the pharmacy and get Biotin- It is for hair, skin & nails. I take a pill everyday and I am losing some hair, but not handfuls. My surgeon reccommended that I start taking it right after surgery. It cannot hurt! Good luck- Janna

Hi Alyssa Have you tried the Protica bullets? 25 grams of protein in 2.9 ozs. I have used them every day since one week out when I realized there was absolutely NO WAY I would be able to drink those shakes. Believe me. I tried almost every one out there (alot of wasted money and liquid protein down the drain!) I can however tolerate the protica and have also used Isopure-bottles. (GNC/Vitamin Shoppe) Neither involves lactose, so I think you'll be ok. I also have the problem with hair loss- UUGG!! Fortunately, not as bad as some, but still it's happening I'm just following everyone's advice (protein/vitamins) and hoping it doesn't last long. good luck!

Topic: RE: Time for a roll call folks
Hey All, I found this group once before and promptly forgot how to get here. (I'm a little computer challenged!) I figured I'd post a rely now before I forget how to get here again. I love to read how everyone else is doing. I know we're not supposed to use someone else's progress as a measure of our own, but I think it's human nature to see how our experience compares to others. As of this morning I'm down 76# yippee. The scale has finally started moving again. I stalled for the last 2 weeks gaining and losing the same 2lbs. Talk about frustrating. However, I just reminded myself that I feel better and look better than I have in years, I have really cute clothes to wear and if I didn't lose another pound I was eternally greatful for having come this far. Then, poof in the last 3 days I lost 3 lbs. I've already reached alot of my personal goals...I can cross my legs, no longer need my CPAP, can sit in a lawn chair, and when shopping I can pass by the Plus sizes and head for the misses section (was 24/26 now 14), I can wear dresses comfortably, and it no longer hurts to walk. My surgeon and NUT have very different approaches than most I've read about here. They don't want us counting anything (calories or protein). My guidelines are to eat no more than 3 times/day - 1 or 2 times/day is ok. Nothing between meals and meals are not to last longer than 20 minutes. Eat protein first, then veggies, then if there's room I can have a carb. I usually don't have room for more than a bite or 2 of carbs. I was worried that this approach was not going to give me enough protein/nutrients so I had my PCP draw a full set of labs. Everything came back absolutely perfect, so I guess it's working as it should. I cannot eat untoasted breads or sugar. Eggs are touch and go. Day to day my hunger and tolerances change. One day I can eat an entire chicken breast and salad, the next day 3 bites and I feel uncomfortably full. It's weird, but I try not to dwell too much on the inconsistencies. Good luck to everyone. Hopefully I will be able to find you again in the future.

I am right there with you!!! I had surgery 3/13 and have had the same 2-3 lbs up/down this past week. It's driving me crazy. That's so funny that you mentioned going to liquids because I had the exact same thought. At least we're not alone. Let me know if you find the secret to breaking this stall!! Lauren

Topic: Hair Loss
Hi. My name is Alyssa. I had bypass surgery almost 5 mos. ago. For the last month I have been loosing handfuls of hair every day. I had really thick hair before and now it is really thin. I have been taking flax seed oil every day but it doesn't seem to help. I'm lactose intolerent and the protein shakes make me sick. I know that the problem is that I'm not getting enough protein (I try to but I can't seem to eat enough). Does anyone know if there is a protein pill that I can take? I would appriciate any help I can get. Thanks.
