Vivian--
Don't forget-- You are awesome. Besides on OH, do you know anyone else who has lost 60 pounds since March? You need to give yourself more credit.... this is not an easy thing to do, and you're doing great!
I would focus on getting your liquids in and feeling good about yourself. Don't let yourself get on that negative train, because it sounds like that's a ride you've already been on. You may need to find an alternate outlet to deal with your emotionally low times. Many of us used to eat when we felt down, and that is part of what got us where we were. Maybe pick up a hobby that you enjoy to fill your free time. I find the days that I get in my required protein and vitamins I feel alot better energy wise, but sometimes I just get tired regardless of my diet.
Don't forget that you are recovering from a major abdominal surgery. Your body is working on healing at the same time as it's adjusting to your new diet.

Vivian,
You should try to accept other people's compliments on your weight loss without qualifying it with,"Yep, but I have a long way to go." It makes people feel like you've rejected their attempt to give you kudos and celebrate your success! It's hard to be upbeat when you are having such trouble with food. My doc told me to avoid bread because the yeast makes it bubble and swell in the stomach pouch, causing nausea and vomiting. I can have a small amount of TOASTED bread, but I don't have it often. The thing to do is keep getting back on the horse when it comes to food. I try a small amount of a new food every day to see if it agrees with me. Lots of things do agree, but, for instance, smoked salmon didn't, and neither did ham! Yikes.
As for the pasta, I have to chew it and chew it until it in little fragments before swallowing, to make sure it would pass through okay. Chicken--go for chicken breast, even though it is drier, because it has less fat and is easier to digest than dark meat. My doc told me to stay away from steak for at least three months post-op because of the high amount of collagen and gristle in the meat that makes it clump together and be hard to process, though I have eaten ground beef successfully. It is a terrific source of protein.
I have a friend who had her surgery two days after mine, and she still exists mainly on eggs, cottage cheese, and protein shakes. It sucks, but everyone's journey is different. Keep taking your supplements and meds, though, no matter what! Best of luck! --Heather

SOO, on the good side I have lost 60 pds. whew hooo, that is good, although being my own worst enemy, everyone who says anything to me about it, gets my standard reply..."Thanks but I have a looooong way to go still.".
I hope to lose another 90 pds.
I am bummed, so I came to the place I know I can count on for support.
I feel honestly like crap everyday. I am naetious? ( I know I spelt that wrong!)..and have gas pains, cramps or just plain can not stand the thought of food most of the time. Salad give me the ****s ( pardon me) and I can not stomach any pasta, rice, bread, etc..no chicken, steak did not sit well either. I am tierd of chilli and tuna, and cheese. I hate to sound negative, but honestly, I have the runs or throw up or just generally feel sick every freakin day, and I have ZERO energy so I am not exercising which also makes me feel like a failure.
help? please..
Topic: RE: How MUCH fat?
The nutritionist at our program told us to try not to exceed 5 grams in a meal. For some going over will lead to dumping, for others it could lead to foul smelling gas or bowel movements, or loose or runny bowel movements because about a third of it isn't going to be absorbed like it used to. But even if you can get away with it, it is a good idea to try to limit it because it is higher in calories - not conducive to your goal of weight loss. That said, I have had some meals with more fat in it and have done fine, probably because I consume so much less volume now.
Topic: RE: How MUCH fat?
I dump on anything over 5 grams of fat per meal.
FYI, coffee is bad... unless you're doing decaf..... it is a natural diuretic and will forcibly remove wha****er you do have from your system.

Topic: How MUCH fat?
Hi all...I'm confused about the amount of fat we're supposed to be having at this poiint (about 2 months out). I've been having some coffee lately b/c I just can't wake up enough without out and I've been putting a bit of whole milk in it. I can put skim in but the color is gross and the taste not great. A *PLOP* of whole milk makes the difference. Now I haven't had a problem with this but it makes me wonder...are you guys eating some fat? I mean, other than what comes in healthy foods? Curious and looking for answers.
Thanks for the support and have a great weekend!

Topic: RE: Plastic surgery
Thanks for that great info, David. We're having a plastic surgeon at our support group next month and, if you're interested, I'd be happy to report back. Perhaps you could have a surgeon come speak to your support group? Best of luck to you and congrats on your weight loss!

Topic: RE: Weight loss!
Thanks for pointing that out. I have never looked at it from that point of view. My God if I lost 208 in a year I would be sooooooo BLESSED! That is about how much I wanted to loose total. Please keep up the good work. I have stopped weighing every week. It's too depressing. I pray that we all keep up the good work.
Topic: RE: Weight loss!
That is really great if you think about what you are losing. Take 4 lbs times 52 weeks and you should get 208 lbs. Wouldn't that be a feat. I think you are doing sooooo good. I am also at about that rate now, somewhere between 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 a week and my group counseler was quick to point out what that meant in a year. Aren't we blessed?
Keep up the good work. I a now 9 weeks post op and have lost 54 lbs. my self but it is at about the rate you are losing to so it is all good.
