My Dr said that the suggested time is about 18 months before doing platics. I would talk to your surgeon about it before making any decisions.

Topic: RE: Plastic surgery
We had a plastic surgeon come to a support group meeting last month.
There are some guidelines coming out from their professional associations and from the Bariatric Surgeon's professional associations. They don't have to follow them, but if you do this too early, you may end up doing it again. (his words, not mine).
The basic guidelines are:
1. You should be at least a year from your original (or any abdominal) surgery. This is to make sure your original surgery has completely healed and you are ready for more.
2. Your weight should be "stable" for at least 6 months. Stable means that you are maintaining your weight in about a 10lb range.
3. You can manage your diet in such a way that you can maintain your weight (within that 10lb range) for about 90 days with little or no exercise.
He said this usually puts, even the healthiest patients, at about a year to 18 months. In many cases it is a lot further out.
The exception is if you are having a medical issue that requires the skin to be removed before that time.
He went on to explain that many surgeons will do the tucks and lifts without following the guidelines, but that they are seeing large numbers of these patients coming back in less than a year for fixes.
Just what we heard.
I wish you luck with the last 25lbs and any upcomming surgery.

Topic: RE: I'M HUNGRY!!
I have found that my appetite is starting to return.
But no matter what you have done as far as surgery, if you don't change the habbits that got you there, you won't be successful in the end.
I have started to look into ways to get my mind off of snacking (even if it is just one pretzle or one sf popsicle).
The first thing I do is change whatever it is that I am doing. If I am watching TV, I turn it off and go outside. If I am working in the kitchen, then I go do something in the living room. If reasonable, I try to take a walk or go play with the kids or something physical. It does not always work.
If that fails, then I get rid of anything that I would want to snack on. Put the pretzles in the cabinet, put the popsicles behind some frozen meat in the freezer, put the wheat thins in my wifes office. You get the idea.
Finally, if I just can't stand it, and everything else has failed...I give myself one. I force myself to eat it slowly and enjoy the taste. And most importantly, I don't beat myself up about it.
I watch the healthiest people I know walk by the candy jar and pick out one hershey kiss or one cookie and break it in half. The key is, they get the taste...they get the little snack...but they don't eat the whole bag...and they don't come back for 20 more (as I used to do).
This is just the strategy that I have started using. I have also started trying to identify those triggers that cause me to desire those snacks. If figure if I can identify what is going on, then I should be able to change something to fix the problem.
Well...that is the theory anyway!
Hope your hunger subsides quickly.

Topic: Plastic surgery
Hi Everyone.
I had my RNY March 1 and have lost 75 pounds. I was only 100 over weight when I started so I will hope to be at my goal weight in August. This leaves me with three months to maintain and I would like to have a tummy tuck in november. My support group thinks that it is to soon for that surgery. I will not be going much lower then 135 as I am already in a six 8 pant and heading for the 6. I don't want to get down to much lower. Any advice as to the time frame for a tummy tuck.

Sometimes referring back to the pouch rules can help, here's a page:

Congrats on the achievement to Onderland. It's so nice to go through the closet and go "Oh those are too big now too". Keep up the good work.

Topic: I'M HUNGRY!!
Lately, I have been feeling really hungry and want to eat all the time. I eat between meals (almonds, popsicles), but I know I shouldn't. Why am I so hungry? What became of my little pouch?
