Depends on your surgeon, but Dr Green will do fills (if needed) at 1 month postop and again at 2 months postop. Don't be scared... if you need a fill, ask for one
Bands don't work without regular fills. Most people don't know that the fluid in the band seeps out over time, causing you to be able to eat more over time... it's an unfortunate fact... the membrane is permeable, meaning the water is meant to seep out over time and require filling again and again. Even after goal weight is reached, the membrane loses water and you can regain.

Do you do this every week? How fun to see everyone's progress! I'll share mine, too...

I am new at posting here. My surgery was 3/23/07. I felt like I needed a little support and it is great to see others that had the surgery the same time as me.
235/200.1/135
Total loss: 35
Total inches: Not sure but my size 20s and some 18s are too big
My Struggles this week: I haven't really been feeling like myself....feeling a little depressed. My social life prior to the surgery revolved around go out and drinking and eating. I feel like avoiding those types of situations. It isn't fun to hang out with drunk friends when you are sober. Some of my friends are not being supportive about my decision not to go out on weekends.
What I am proud of: I really worked on eating my protein.
Goals for next week: Get more exercise and drink my water.

Well... I've been sitting at or around 270 for the last 2 weeks... I finally have my energy back so I am going to start hitting the gym this week. So far I've lost 52 lbs. and I struggle to get my water in every day. I know that if I start exercising, I will really have to increase my water!
Had to do some shopping because I am running out of clothes to wear! woo hoo! I had to get a cute new haircut too... to match my new cute look...
Have a great week everyone!

If you feel you are able to eat too much you may need another fill. I was banded March 5 and got my first fill at 6 weeks. My dr. told me to come back in 3 months but within 3 weeks I was eating a whole sandwich and not really feeling full. So, I called much sooner than the 3 months and requested another fill. It can take several fills to get to the right level of restriction. Good luck to you.

I wish I could give you some advice, but I had RNY. I hope someone who has had the lap band can help you out. Did you post on the lap band board?
Good Luck,
Robin

Hi Rita,
It may that I am measuring more parts than you and that is why I have lost more inches. It's hard to say. It sounds to me like you are doing awesome, and I am very proud of you! Keep up the good work!
I do work out everyday because I want so badly to try to avoid having to have plastic surgery because I know I can't afford it if insurance doesn't cover it. Also, I promised myself that if I got approved for this surgery that I was going to become the "jock" that I used to be. I loved it when I had a nice hard body,a nd darn it, I want it back!
You're doing great. So please don't beat yourself up for not working out and what not. We all do this our own way and you're doing fabulously!

Way to go Robin and Dave!!!!
Okay BIG BIG Wake up call for all of us who are NOT exercising like we should..are you ready?????????
I came on here to update my measurements cause I just did them. I was so excited about the inches I have lost which i know I should be and am.
BUT I read Robin's post and noticed that she works out ALL THE TIME (way to go Robin)
Robin has lost the same amount of weight as I have. She had her surgery just a couple of days before mine. Total loss for both of us is 44lbs.
Robin has lost a total of 55 inches (HOLY COW..WAY TO GO!!!!!!) My total inches lost is 40!!!!!!!
Now I have lost 13 in two weeks and I am completely proud of that...but that is a 15 inches difference!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have both lost the same amount of weight...Hmmmmmmm....if that is not a wake up call and some major motivation for me I don't know what is!!!!!!!!!!!1 Thank you Robin for your post!!! I need to get my rear into gear (literally!!!)
Now hear this everyone...I am NOT beating myself up. I just know now what changes I really need to make to get the results that I want to get!
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

I had my band in March and the scale has stopped. I have been working out. I can eat anything. I have been filled but I feel like I have not had surgery at all. I am getting so tempted to eat. This weekend I ate a whole ham and cheese sandwich. Now I know I shouldn't be able to eat that!! I see my dr today and I am so scared to get on the scale there. I know he will not be happy with me. Is there anyone out there that is having this problem?
Topic: RE: Plateau already???
I found myself being co compulsive with the scale, that it was taking most of the fun out of dropping all of the weight that I'd lost. Once I relaxed a little on the scale, I realized the scale was still dropping, just not as quickly as before!
You're doing great, don't get frustrated. You'll be droppin more weight before you know it!
