Topic: RE: what are you eating?
I feel the same way you do, Becky. I'm still scared of a bunch of foods and am excited to see others are eating salads! i was told by one nut that those were "months away" for me. I'm working to get my protein in as well but find that things change day to day. Yesterday, I had 2 small meatballs without any problem. Tonight, something feels stuck. Maybe I ate them too quickly. Who knows. They were moist though. Anyway, I'm still afraid of chicken having gotten really sick a couple of weeks ago. You guys are making me think though that I've been too frightened and am missing eating from more of the food groups. If anyone would like to post a day's intake like they do on the RNY board, I'd love to see it them. Thanks!

wow! you guys are much more daring than I am. I need to try some new things. But I am so concerned about getting in all the protein and I still can't eat much at all. I have been sticking with chicken, tuna, black eyed peas.. only 'single food' meals pretty much. it's really getting boring.
I have looked at the south beach protein bars and meals but they seemed so high in carbs and some sugars. I guess they are okay.
I haven't even attempted to try fruits and veggies since it seems when I'm not eating my few meals I'm chugging water. Seems I don't want to waste food space on things with no protein.
Enlighten me, someone!

The canned peaches or pears to take to work is a great idea!! I am always struggling to find things to eat at work. Thanks

I wanted to add the following:
I try to keep the number of grams of sugar per serving below 6. I eat almonds, some fruits, & many vegetables on a regular basis now. But I do eat a little pasta, rice, or potato every now and then, but I limit it to 2 tablespoons or less and only 1-2 times per week. I even found these "tortillas" to make pizza or wraps on. They are the light, whole wheat "Flat Out" brand wraps. They have 9 grams of protein per wrap and only 90 calories (1.5g of fat and NO sugar). I usally only eat 1/2 of one when I do eat them, but they are delicious. I love pizza and was really missing it, but now I have some when I want it by using the flatout wraps. I toast it, top it with fresh tomato, basil, a little garlic, 1-2 oz. part skim mozarella, salt, pepper, and a spray of Olive Oil cooking spray, and bake it. It is awsome and dures the craving for pizza! It also completely fills me up and has about 19g of protein for about 200 calories. I also love making burritos with them. I use the tyson or perdue fajita chicken strips, 2% milk cheddar Cheese, salsa, lettuce, tomato, a few black beans, green onions, and a few chopped black olives on a half a wrap. Roll it all up, pop it in the microwave until its hot and the cheese is melted. Again, it's about 200 calories and almost 20g of protein if I can eat the whole thing. Sometimes I get full on this one when I am half way through it, but it is YUMMY!

Your craving for hot or cold drinks it probably to do with pouchie muscle. I have found that a morning and evening "wash down" with a warm cup of herbal tea (no caffiene) works really well to relax the muscles of my pouch so I can eat without getting sick..
Without that tea, I'm crampy miserable everytime I swallow.
The ice cold stuff is similar in that it numbs the nerve endings in the stomach and kinda desensitizes it a bit.
So as long as you're not overdoing the sugar or caffiene, enjoy

Robin,
I can totally relate with what you are saying about food. Before, the food controlled me, and now I control my food choices. What a difference it makes!

Thanks for your comment! I am having no problems getting used to my new life. The hardest thing for me is realizing how much of life I've been missing just because I was overweight. I didn't realize the extent to which I was addicted to food and sugars. Lately, I've found that I am coming up with new interests to spend my time doing.

I like the "south beach" protein bars (19 grams of protein each). I usually will eat one for breakfast, and throw 1-2 in my box to eat while I am at work. Today I had a 2/3's of a turkey sandwich for lunch. It was pretty good. I also like string cheese in the colby jack variety. I bought some small tupperware dishes that I like to put canned peaches or pears in to take to work. I also like the south beach "pizza" which has 31 grams of protein. Canned chili is also a personal favorite. I like the spicy varieties. I was on crystal light for the first month or so, but now am completely back to water.

Wow we really are alike. I don't seem to dump on sugar either and I crave slushies too!!! I went out and bought an ice shaver the other day and me and my kids and my kids are loving it! I know it has more than the reccomended sugar but once the ice melts it gets very watered down!!! Well good luck and keep me updated on how you are doing!!

I am down 57lbs so far but nothing this week!

Careful of the caffiene in the tea... caffiene is a diuretic and causes you to lose water. It could dehydrate you and lead to the light headedness and dizziness.... so for every glass/bottle of caffiene, you need an EXTRA bottle of water (above your daily minimum).
