Dumping can have literally dozens of symptoms... some people don't vomit with dumping, some do... some get diarrhea, some don't... some get the hypoglycemic rush (chest pain, flushing, dizzy, weak, sweaty, tired) and some don't... Dumping is a VERY individual experience.... the short short version is that vomiting from eating too fast is not the same as dumping... Dumping is not something that is the same from one patient to the next.... For me, sometimes it's just intestinal cramping.. pain in the pouch... and starts anytime from 30 mins after a meal, to several hours later... I get two kinds of symptoms with dumping... the hypoglycemic symptoms complete with needing to lay down for a nap... and just this nauseated "ache" when the food is sitting in my pouch and not going down... eventually that version of dumping does lead to vomiting So only you know if you got sick because you ate too fast, or because you chose the wrong things And I figured out I dump on anything more than 5 g sugars or 5 g fats.

Congratulations to both of you. I'm glad you are doing so well. I will be 1 month out in a week and have lost 41 pounds. This surgery really does change lives, doesn't it? i tell everyone that I am no longer a slave to food - I can take it or leave it without feeling guilty when I do eat (because I make a healthy choice and because I am fueling my body now) and nt feeling like I am missing out then I don't eat (I just don't want all that unhealthy stuff in my body any more). It's awesome! Keep the good work! ~Robin

Hey Rita, I'm still here as well...just not as much anymore. RNY 3/15 318/257/187 Don't really worry about the inches thing. Struggle: Eating real foods. I have fallen into a pattern of eating one Meal Replacement bar and three protein shakes a day. For the longest time, I could only tolerate chicken and fish. Any beef made me feel horrible. Thin pasta also did the same thing. I got so sick of chicken and fish that I just got away from even trying. With my nutritionists help I am back to trying again. But since I need to get from 110 to 135g of protein a day it is very tough to put in anything that is not protein. Success: About 3 weeks ago I got a little sick of just walking on the treadmill. So I started a slow jog. I have never been a runner but this felt really good. It also stimulated some serious weight loss. That week I pushed it to the point where I could actually jog a 5K loop on the machine. I ran into a friend (same age) that had just finished running a 5K race that went right by my house. So I tried it last week. Definately harder but was able to fini**** in 40 minutes. Sunday, I did it in 38:30. My goal now is to actually run in a 5K race this fall. I am hoping that by then I might be able to do it in 30 minutes. That would still have me finishing last, but finishing none the less. Good luck with the struggles and congrats on the successes! Dave

All of our lives are changing so much! I'm glad to see that this surgery has helped you with your diabetes. I would LOVE it if my Mom could get the surgery so her diabetes would go away too! I wish you continued success! Amie

Thanks Robin, I haven't experienced the dumping yet then. I try to stay away from sweets. I want a McDonalds sweet so bad but I am staying away because I don't want to dump. I just get it unsweet and just add equeal. It is not the same but it will do.

Hi, I'm new to the board but had to jump in. My surgery was 3/27 and I've lost 30 pounds which is a lot but I want it to be more!! I'm a very impatient person. My struggle: eating too fast and nausea which is so frustrating. Like the dietician said, sometimes something will agree with me and next time it won't. I'm still trying to figure it out. Success: I'm walking 3 miles a day, at least 6 days a week. Some friends at work are walking in the morning and I'm going to do that, too. (Mostly for the company.) I listen to books on CD when I walk so the time goes by really fast and I hardly realize I've been working out. I refuse to run. It's great to hear about what's going on with others - very inspiring. Marsha
