Hello Vivian, I am so glad I am not the only one going through this. I don't wish this on anyone but I am just glad to know I am not crazy. I had been doing fine and then I added in meats and more solid food and I started having problems. I called the nutritionist and she had me call the doctors nurse because she thinks I have formed scar tissue in my stoma. They say it's an easy fix, just go in and they give you the forget everything drugs and then do an endoscocpy. Bing bang done and you are eating solids that night. I hope it works. I have gone back to just soups and drinks. I also can't do plain water, crazy huh, I sure thought so, then I called and they said some people can't do plain water. It was causing my stomach to spasm, hot, warm, cold, it didn't matter. I have heard that the stoma issue is fairly common so don't think you did anything wrong. I was relieved to finally see someone else post about this because I was looking for the last two weeks and nothing. I did find the positive in it, when someone with a tiny stomach throws up it is over really fast! Let me know what they do for you, I think they are going to do the scope on me Tuesday. Take care, Kim

Topic: Almost 60 lbs gone!!!!
WOW, I'm not quite 8 weeks yet (will be on Wed), and almost 60 lbs gone!!! I'm just plain amazed!! I'm down to a 22/24 (from a 28/30). Today was a series of WOW moments... we bought a kayak today (at hubby's insistance) and although I was ok with the IDEA of buying it and going out in it... I wasn't expecting to actually use it anytime soon though... The actuality of putting on a swimsuit for the first time since surgery... left me a bit shocked. It slipped on without a huge struggle, that was the shocking part... I was able to get into the boat without difficulty and even paddle it around a bit!! *I* got to participate in an outdoor sport!!! I wasn't even really over tired... it was awesome!!

Hi Rita, You shouldn't be disappointed because you did way better than me. I hit 4 weeks last Thursday. I went to the doctor and I am only down 17 pounds. The doctor is excited for me, but I was so frustrated with the stall I had at 3 weeks. I have been able to get in about 60 to 80 oz of water and other liquids a day. I am trying to manage about 70+ grams of protein with the help of Isopure drinks. I am taking two multivitamins a day and an Iron pill called Tandem because my iron was low in my lab work. I am walking about a mile 4 to 5 days a week when the weather cooperates. That is tough but I do it during lunch and that keeps me accountable. Everyone is doing so great. I hope to keep up somehow. I should be happy with the 17 cuz that means I now have only about 85 pounds to go. Blessings Becky H

Topic: Dave's trip to the Lake
Yesterday my family did our first "active" activity since Jodell and I had our surgeries. We went out with my dad in his ski boat to the lake for the day. I've lost 60 pounds since 2 weeks before my surgery, and about 70 pounds since my "life time high" which was the last time I went to the lake. I noticed such a huge difference in how much easier it was to get in and out of the boat, and the entire trip was alot more enjoyable than the last time I went to the lake. The 4 kids and Jodell really enjoyed themselves as well. I think this is a good example of the type of fun stuff we are going to be doing more as a family as a direct result of our having our surgeries. --Dave

Congrats on the success. I've been able to do some shopping at a regular store, and it has been nice. It's fun to have a smaller size, and more choices. I took one of my old suits to the tailor, and was advised I had shrunk so much that they couldn't alter my jacket and have it look right on me. Since I don't desperately need a new suit right now, I'm going to wait until I lose alot more weight before buying a new one!

i think the trick with the bullets for me is to find the least amount of water poosible to mix them with to make them palatable so i can drink them relatively quick. i don't see how some people can drink them straight. blehhhhhh.

Topic: RE: has anyone noticed your loss yet?
I've lost 60 pounds, and just went back to work about a week ago. Many people claim they have a hard time recognizing me because I've lost so much weight. Another co-worker told me "We sent Dave on LOA, and his younger brother came back." I think some people are just being nice, but most people say they didn't expect to see this kind of results this quickly. That said, my weight too has slowed down quite a bit lately, but it's still coming off. I keep trying to remind myself that I didn't get this surgery to have other people "notice," but rather because I wanted to be healthier and live longer. I always make sure I get in more than 64 oz per day of water, and consume as much protein as humanly possible. Jodell had her surgery almost 5 weeks ago, and she doesn't feel like people notice her weight loss yet (she's lost 30 pounds), yet when we went shopping for a few things this past weekend, she was pleasantly surprised how much her sizes had dropped. --Dave

Topic: RE: Itchy Skin! Is this a normal side affect?
Juanita, I know exactly what you are talking about, because I also have been dealing with ichy skin alot lately. Especially on my calves, legs, and some of my arms. I made up my own treatment, which you are welcome to try. My assumption for the cause of itching is that my body is having a hard time shedding the extra skin fast enough, as I'm losing weight so quickly. First, I use one of those shower poufs to really exfoliate the ichy areas. I use a lotion soap on the shower pouf. Then, after i'm all dry from the shower, I use some lotion on the dry areas. Several times I've taken an extra shower in the evening, and repeated the same process. It's helped so I don't wake up in the night iching. Sometimes I'll put lotion on again in the middle of the day. I'm an Arizona person, and it tends to be a dryer climate here than lots of other places. Hopefully this will help. --Dave

Congrats on the weight loss and the clothing changes. Jodell and I have had recent fun in trying on new sizes of clothes that wouldn't have fit in our dreams a couple months ago. We also bought some of the new whey. It has lots of protein, but is very thick kind of like cough syrup. Welcome to the board! --Dave

Hi Rita, Sorry for Being an OH slacker lately. I went back to work about a week ago, and seemed to have more time to post and respond before I went back to work. Jodell and I are also looking at more and more food options, and we are starting to get more comfortable with our new selves post RNY. Don't be so hard on yourself to meet pre-set goals for weight loss. I was losing weight like crazy for a while there, and things really slowed down for me. For a while I just quit weighing myself. It was tough because I was in the habit of daily weigh ins, but I knew if I just kept going by the rules, the weight would continue to come off. As for my personal weight loss update, I've now lost 60 pounds since 2 weeks before my surgery. Jodell has lost 30 pounds. She can relate to some of your frustrations with trying to compare yourself to other's loss. That said, 30 pounds is not "chump change" when it comes to weight loss. Almost none of my pre-surgery clothes fit without looking like I'm wearing a tent. They could now pass for "hip-hop" fashion because some of them are so baggy. I've got a few replacements, as I had to for work. Keep smiling, and remember that if you go by the rules, you will continue to lose weight! --Dave
