That's what I thought too. My doc told me no more than 25-30g protein per meal and to get at least 60g per day. Thanks for clearing that up! ~Robin

Hi Vivian, I am 6 weeks out on Thursday. I hated each of the protien powders I tried. But I kept trying and trying different ones. I just wish they would sell them in smaller containers. Anytime I would see someone in my area talk about how they loved this product or that product, I would ask if I could come get a little sample. Most folks said yes. So I tried a bunch. 99.9% of them made me gag. Even when put in pudding or Crystal Lite or milk or whatever. I did find one though that I could work with (although, with all the recent talk about the test tube stuff...I might have to try that). The one I use is called Nectar. You can google it or they have it in places like the Vitamin Shoppe (not sure if they have those where you are though). There are two things I like about the Nectar powder. First, it is like a pixie stick in taste. So much so, that you can literally eat it right out of the container. Yet, it is still less than 100 calories for 24g of protein. Right now, I am mixing 1 scoop with about 4 oz of Crystal Lite Fruit Punch, in a paper cup. I mix it with a spoon, gently, until all the powder is absorbed. In my blender, I mix about 2 or 3 cut up strawberries, about 1/3 of a bannana, enough crushed ice to cover the fruit, and then add about 3 to 4 oz of the Crystal Lite Fruit Punch. I hit it with the blender until everything is smooth. THEN I pour in the Nectar mixture. I dump it all in a cup and stir it again (gently). I end up a with a fruit shake that has no hint of the protein that's in it. I will switch up the fruit depending on what is in the house, but I have really gotten hooked on them. I am now being required to get from 110 to 135 g of protein so the only way I can keep up is the protein shakes. Just keep trying things. You will eventually hit on something that works. As a change from the ordinary stuff, I occasionally get some lump crab meat and mix it up with some no-fat mayo. Add some good spices and it is a nice change from chicken and tuna! I have also been broiling some Talapia fillets. They are good and light, with high protein. Just don't over cook them...they get dry and won't sit well. Good luck, Dave

Viv have you tried putting that protein powder (a 1/4 cup) into SF pudding? Did you know you can get 10 gr of protein by eating it mixed into pudding? I eat one of those for breakfast each morning - just mix in the protein powder into the milk WELL before you add the SF pudding mix - beat for two minutes and chill you'll geet 4 - half cup servings of power pudding (the choclate is to die for) It also depends on What brand of protein you're using too - I got a sample box of Isopure - it had 5 or 6 flavors in it Isopure is better than Walmart brand Whey powder (but even that tastes good mixed well in SF pudding it's amazing... it's like desert all the time! Try it - I'm 5 weeks out too, and I'm eating almost anything except red meat and that I have to wait until May 9th - to eat, then doc says I can eat anything I want to in small portions. Sooo you're almost there too so hang in there. Try some SF pudding for a treat. Patricia B Missouri

Your body can only process 25-30g of protein a day. Anything above that mark is wasted. Exercising is the only way to preserve muscle mass. Your doing great and keep up the good work. ~Christal/dionysus_star

Hi. I am 5 weeks out (3/15/07) and I've lost 37.5 lbs. I was only able to get down about 17 oz of water a day for awhile. So I dropped quick. Now I am doing alot better. But it has been really hard. Sometimes I just wish I could reverse it all and go to McDonalds...its terrible to want that I know...I get through it...but it's still hard. I eat a slice of Turkey wrapped around 1oz of 2% cheese...it's really good for lunch. Sugar Free popsicles really save me...taste so yummy. I really like the great value sugar free water flavorings (fruit punch, grape). For about 4 weeks I have been dehydrated because I haven't been able to get the water down and then all of a sudden I can drink 17oz in an hour and a half if I concentrate on it. I like snacking on saltine crackers and cheese-nips. I had some microwaveable beef brisket that was just wonderful....I almost felt normal. I had a piece of wheat toast with penut butter that was really nice...took awhile to go down but great. It's all trial and error. My taste buds are completely different now so old food I loved isn't always what I'll love now. Good luck everyone! ~Christal/dionysus_star

Try these protein bullets (IDS New-Whey Liquid Protein). I love them. They are available in 25g protein for 100 cal with no fat and no carbs at this website http://www.wholesalesupplementstore.com/new-whey-liquidprotein.html , or if you just want to buy a couple to try them, go to The Vitamin Shoppe. They sell them individually there. Good Luck, Robin

I was using the unjury powder. It was ok but now I can't do it. I'm only doing 2-3 bites from any meal. I wonder why so little. Everyone tell me that is not a lot of food intake to get energy. I'm drinking a lot of calories becuase I'm drinking the vitamine water that is the only liquid i can keep down. Thier about 130 calaories a bottle. I can do one and a half to two bottles a day.

Hi There, I will be five weeks out on Wednesday, and I have lost 30 pounds too. I had my own version of a cheeseburger the other day, and it was delicious. I browned some extra lean ground beef, drained it, melted a slice of 2% American Cheese over it 2 oz. of the ground beef, dotted it with mustard and ketchup, and even a little chopped dill pickle, and it was fantastic. It satisfied my craving for a burger from Wendy's too. Have you tried making chicken salad, or homemade lowfat pimento cheese, or egg salad? They are all really great too. How about tuna sashimi - I have been eating a lot of that lately because it is so high in protein and low in fat. I seem to be able to digest it really well too. Oh yeah - try some lowfat cottage cheese with some canned peaches in light syrup. If you are wanting dessert try layering fat free sugar free vanilla (or whatever flavor you like) pudding with strawberries (or whatever fruit you like), sugar free cool whip, and sugar free angel food cake in a large trifle bowl. It is really good and only takes a little bit to satisfy a sweet tooth. Hope these idea help you out some! Good Luck, Robin
