Topic: RE: PCOS and stall already? do i need my metformin
I have PCOS too. My endocrinologist is the one *****ally helped me decide to have WLS. My blood levels are crazy off and I also have an insulin resistent form of PCOS which makes it all suck even more. He said I would get diabetes within 5 years and have heart disease in my 30s just like my father. Not to mention the tons of other symptoms and problems that come from PCOS. He was going to put my on metformin but only if I didn't want to have the surgery...I said I was willing to do what I needed to to be healthy and live a longer life so I wanted the surgery. He said a year after my surgery to make an appointment and he would check my werido blood levels and make sure they are improving. I had my surgery on 3/15 and I have lost 38.5 lbs so far. I had some complications so I was on liquids for 3 weeks. I was also dehydrated so my weight loss seemed alot more rapid at first so the last few weeks it appeared that I hadn't lost that much even though I lost fat but gained water weight. From what I have read is that some with PCOS lose weight slower, have more plateaus, and then some lose "normally", and then others lose faster. I really think our bodies are just so werid they do what they want. I think the important thing to do is to consult our doctors and remember that we will lose the weight! I am trying not to expect certain things at certain times for fear of dissapointing myself. I am making a concerted effort to try and take things as they come and just enjoy the progress I am making. We shall see how that goes of course. Christal/dionysus_star 298/260.5/?Healthy

Topic: RE: New to board and hit a plateau
I had surgery on 3/15 and I lost 34 lbs in the first two weeks then I only lost 4.5 lbs the next two weeks. I was kinda upset but still happy that I had lost 38.5 lbs in a month. My surgeon said it was because I had been dehydrated and that makes it seem like you had lost alot of weight...but now I am properly hydrated so it seems like i haven't lost much weight in the past weeks. But I can see the differences and I can feel them. I think looking at the total weight loss is important to keep perspective. Weighing yourself everyday is a bad idea. Some days you may be retaining water, dehydrated, constipated, gaining muscle, etc. Weighing once a week or every other week can give you a more accurate idea of whats going on. Just remember you are doing great and everyone loses at a different rate but YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT! Keep up the good work and keep positive! ~Christal/dionysus_star

Topic: RE: Protein Shots 42 G protein in 3 oz.
Sherry...it has 190 calories. I take one a day. There is no sugar in it. I know that might be higher in calories than some, but for the amount of protein you get in one shot it is worth it! Also...if your body can only absorb 30 grams at a time then you could take these tubes and just drink half of them in the am and the other half in the pm...still taking in less to get more. (they are resealable)! Rita

I'll have to try that. I am definately not getting enough protein, but I am also more restricted on calories. I'll have to see what that comes out to. Thanks! Sherry

Topic: RE: Sick of Being Sick
Thanks ladies! I went back to the full liquids and really soft foods today to see if that would help, and it has. I haven't thrown up all day although my pouch is really sore from yesterday. I am just going to do the really soft stuff again for a few days and see if that helps me get back on track. For me I have noticed that my foods have to be very moist to go down ok plus needing them to be very well mashed and well chewed too. My WMS said to do 30 chews per small bite of food, so I'll do that when I try some of those types of food again. Hopefully it gets better soon. Sherry

I felt the same way last week - 2 weeks out. I hit a stall and it seemed like everything I ate sat like stone in my pouch. I didn't lose anything last week and so went back to liquids. The warm broths and teas were the most comforting and the 42g protein bullets I added to my water helped me continue to meet my protein/ liquid requirements. It really helped to clear everything out and added some extra healing time for my pouch. I stepped up my walks and was able to lose 3lbs as of my 3 week surgiversary. I think I was eating too quickly and not pureeing or chewing enough. I've started with pureed food again and am doing much better with it. I hope you feel better soon! Best of Luck, DeeD

Excellent information-- I bought single packets of powders to make into a shake to try after surgery- because people were saying your tastes change afterwards and not to stock up on anything. My surgery is tomorrow- so I'm going out to night to get some 'test tubes' Thank you so much!! Jackie

Topic: RE: weird pain
Hi Georgeanne, I have the same thing. My surgeon said that it was due to a big suture that is still healing. I had been without pain for a while then it just came out of nowhere! He told me just to take my pain meds as needed and rest when it is bothering me. Hope you feel better soon. Janie 3/19/07

I also have been using them from the beginning and I also heard that we could only absorb 20-30 grams of protein per hour. So I take 1/2 of the 42g vile at a time. Cheaper that way . I take it just like cough medicine 1 1/2 oz at a time. Making sure to space it out so I won't be getting more than 20 g (between food and shots) in any given hour. Sooooo much easier than anything else. I now only need to take it once a day, sometimes twice. Depending on my food protein. I read so many had such a hard time getting all the protein in. But thanks to my shots, I had an easy time of it.
