Topic: RE: Liquid Diet Struggles Anyone?
I just started my 10 day clear liquid diet yesterday, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Just keep yourself focused on your long term goals, and you can do it. It looks like you have several good ideas posted already. I will copy what the doctor's office gave me for my 10 day clear liquid diet - it is pretty strict, so you may want to check you your Dr/s office to see how extreme they want to go.... Good Luck!!! 10 DAYS PRIOR TO SURGERY PRE-OP NUTRITION INFORMATION Sugar-free Popsicles and Jell-O Crystal-Lite - (no tea flavors as they contain caffeine) Sugar-free seltzer water-decarbonated Twister-Lite - orange cranberry flavor only Sugar-free Tang Sugar-Free Koolaid Sugar-Free Country Time Lemonade Caffeine-free, sugar-free sodas such as Diet 7-Up, Diet Sprite, Diet Sierra Mist Broth (beef, chicken, veggie, miso soup) - No cream soup. Homemade vegetable/meat soup is good as long as the food has been strained out before eating the remaining broth. Quantity and Adequacy: Please take at least 80 ounces of these fluids in a 24 hour period. You should be voiding an ample amount of clear urine at least every 4 hours. If this is not happening, please increase the amount of fluid you are drinking. If you are on diuretics (water pills) or other medication that affect you urine output, please consult with your primary care physician or specialist. Drink Water. The goal LIFE-LONG is to be able to drink 3 liters (3 quarts) of water daily (in addition to other clear liquids you may want to have). So start that habit now. BEGIN SUPPLEMENTS: Daily Protein: Drink 30 grams of protein 3 times a day = 90 grams of protein for 10 days. Daily multi-vitamins: Take 3 multi-vitamins every day for 10 days. Daily Calcium citrate*: Take a total of 1500 mgs of calcium citrate every day. *calcium citrate dosage may vary depending on underlying medical conditions and your pre-op Lab results. Diabetics: STOP taking oral medications or insulin when you begin this diet - especially if you have been on a high protein diet prior to this clear liquid phase. You MUST check your blood sugars every 6 hours and every night at bedtime. If your blood sugar is less than 80 or greater than 200, please contact your internist or endocrinologist. Example of a day's meals: Breakfast - Orange sunshine drink: 4oz diet orange soda (decarbonated) 2 frozen diet orange soda ice cubes Protein Powder (vanilla) to = 30 grams one multi-vitamin and 500 mg calcium citrate Begin drinking water 30 minutes AFTER drinking your breakfast protein. Snack: Jell-O or sugar-free Popsicles continue drinking water Lunch: Strawberry Delight: 4 oz diet 7-Up, diet Sprite or Sierra Mist soda (decarbonated) 1/2 teaspoon of strawberry extract flavor protein powder to = 30 grams (vanilla) 4 ice cubes blend until smooth one multi-vitamin & 500 mg calcium citrate Begin drinking water 30 minutes AFTER your lunch protein. Snack: Bowl of your favorite broth Continue drinking water Dinner: Root Beer Float: 6 oz diet root beer (decarbonated) 3 ice cubes 30 grams of chocolate protein blend until smooth one multi-vitamin & 500 mg of calcium citrate Continue drinking water

Topic: RE: Starting the liquid diet tomorrow... Ugh!!
I just started my 10 day clear liquid diet yesterday. It wasn't as bad as I thought, because I was so ready. It was a bit tough when my husband cooked his lunch and the aroma filled the whole house. When he was done cooking, I went and heated up some chicken broth, and that satisfied me enough to help me get through it. Good luck to you. Just focus on your long term goal when you are struggling...

Topic: RE: April 9th.
I'll be my doc's 2nd surgery of the day. The case before me will be a bit complicated, because she has had numerous other surgerys b4. My surgery probably won't happen until 11 or 12. Hope all goes well with you! My hubby is getting REALLY nervous... I'm ok so far.

Topic: Had Surgery April 2
I just discovered this site and forum and looks great with a lot of interaction and help. I had my Realize (same as Lap-Band but different brand) surgery last Wed, April 2 and going thru the tough stage. Finding it very difficult to get adequate water and liquid food down and last night the Fill Port gave me difficult time in sleeping. The port feels uncomfortable when I lie down. Of course, I'm feeling very weak but probably from lack of nutrition. I suppose this is all normal but would like to know if others have/having same experience. Thanks. Millyj
