Yeah most DOC's wont... very dangerous surgery.. Even though they can perform it the same way gastric is perform.. but they don't take out the intestines they bypass longer than the gastric does.. so meaning also every fat they eat literally is not introduced into the system.. but gastric does bypass some of the intestine but not as far as the DS.. the only side effect is they can have up to 3 to 4 loose bowels a day or more.. loud gas odors.. a guy friend of mine had it.. he had to get permission form insurance .. he went to Toronto Canada.. to get.. the bonus to this surgery.. weight usually remains off for good... he went from 470lbs to 230lbs.. They also have a strict diet, in which they can not eat a lot of foods high in fat.. this causes the bad gas odor.. and 3 to 4 loose stools a day..

Check out the DS board if you are really curious.  The DS was the surgery I most wanted, but there are no surgeons in Florida that perform it and it wasn't likely my insurance would have accepted it anyways.

The DS is a restriction and malaborsptive procedure.  They make a sleeve of your stomach (like the VSG) and also do the intestinal bypassing.

Generally the DS is a good option for the super-obese as it does drastically reduce the weight.  Additionally, DSers tend to malabsorb fat for life, so they can eat higher fat foods without as much risk of weight gain.

I think i have noticed most of us here have had the RNY or bad. I went to a information seminar my surgeon had last nigth to be an "inspiration" to  people thinking of having surgery. Must say don't think of myself that way btu anyhoo.

I never looked into a DS(doudenal switch) because it is one procedure that my surgeon and most in the city won't do, but i didn't realize that it basically is a procedure that takes most of your intestines out is this right? I mean that seems so dangerous.  In fact i had never heard of it until i looked on here. It seems so scary does anyone else know about it?

I think my scale finally moved again yay. But i am not getting to excited because then it will stop lol! Alright have a nice Valentines day weekend everyone!

Topic: RE: What to expect month 7...
OK, so I am 7 months out and I have 0.08 lbs to lose until I hit 100 lbs.  0.08! UGH!  I mean, you wouldn't think it would take forever, but I have been kicking myself around the freaking field with these last two pounds for like almost 2 weeks!  It's driving me crazy!  I really think that I need to see how much I am eating, and maybe eat a little more calories, because I don't think I am getting enough in.

AARGH!  0.08 lbs!

Topic: RE: to kick up the weight loss

The last couple of months have been a stall for me.  December I spent two weeks at my daughter's house to take care of my 2 yo granddaughter while my daughter gave birth to twins.  So I got almost no exercise in then.  I got back home 2 days before Christmas and went on a vacation the day after.  Again not alot of exercise and too many chocolates and other bad foods.

I'm taking a vacation this week and trying to jump start the weight loss again.  I've been going to the gym for a 90 min workout on cardio equipment and doing 20 min of weight machines every day.
I'll have to try upping the protein too.  I want to be below 200 at my one year anniversary.  But it has been slow going for me all along averaging 1-2 lbs a week. I know I need to be back on this board regulary too.  I've been away too long and miss you all.

Topic: RE: century club?

I get confused with the centry club. Is it when you loose 100 pounds or when you are in the 100+ range?

I have 10 pounds to go before loosing 100... so definately need to celebrate with a card, if that's the case!
