Topic: RE: Long time, no post!
Hi Heather! 36lbs is an amazing accomplishment!!
This is an incredible journey. I am about 6wks out from lap RNY and agree that the energy and motivation for exercise is improving. I still have a few "burn out" days, but only once a week as opposed to daily! My head hunger has woken occasionally, forcing me to leave the area or drink up on the water. Actually, I have been able to get all my fluids and protein in more easily after the "wake up"...now it's just wrapping my head around not acting on the impulse.
My WOW moment is daily...I notice improvements everytime I walk up the stairs or just put on my seat belt!
My "to do" list is now less sedentary and more vacation oriented! What is on your "to do" list? How do you like to get in your exercise? Tell me about your WOW!!:cheers:MaryG

Hey Cindy! You're doing great with weight loss! I don't think the scale is an accurate measure of your success yet, post op water retention can last for bit, especially if your fluid intake is on the lower side. It's hard to get in all the water they recommend, but it certainly helps drop the numbers. I am about 6wks out from lap RNY, and am starting to now notice an increase in my energy and effort at exercise. I know that plateaus and stalls will happen in this adventure, but I hope to notice them less. Denial allowed me to get to over 300lbs...I rarely weighed myself at that weight because it made me hungry!! Give yourself a break from the scale and pamper yourself a bit...YOU deserve it!
Try a manicure, pedicure, hot bath, massage....what ever tickles your fancy... I am surprised at what a 15 minute break in the routine can do to make the whole day refocus!
Before you head back to work, make a plan for ways to fit
your exercise into the mix. Walking at lunchtime has been a great way to get away from the grind in my day.
Please feel free to email, I have some great recipes for bath products you can make yourself...this feels like cooking but I don't have to eat it...just wear it!

Topic: One Month Report - How is Everyone Doing?
Hi, well for the august board we are all at least 1 month out, many will be closer to 2 months out. How is everyone doing?
I must admit this is harder than I thought. My surgery was relatively uncomplicated and although I struggled to get my protein and water in, I lost 15 pounds the first 2 weeks and another 5 the 3rd week. Since then I have not lost a pound. I am getting frustrated. I go back to work on Monday and know it will be harder to work out too.
I am thankful for this board and the RNY board for all the exchanges and know I am not alone in my plight.
I do not want to become discouraged and sabotage my chance here so I will continue (I hope) to make this a priority even while back at work, I know it will be a new challenge.
As far as sizes go, I have clothes in my closet from size 20 to 24. My two pairs of jeans are size 24 and 22 and I am still wearing them. They must have been pretty tight before as now they are comfortable. I find that I can tell I have lost weight in my face, hands and feet but not noticeably in my stomach or butt! And I have not measured, I took my measurements pre op, but can't find them~! It will be nice going back to work and finding more things fit in my closet. But I was really hoping I would be able to have somethings TOO big by now, I guess I need to be patient.
So what about it August Board, how are you all doing?
Let's continue to stick together in our journey and find success!

Topic: Long time, no post!
Hello there all of my August buddies,
Sorry that I have been gone so long....had a little bit of an issue to deal with post-op (slow digestive track, yeah!) and took most of my energy to deal with that and the "new" routine!
How is everyone doing? I am doing better now that my stomach seems to have woken up and finally decided to get with the program. I am down 36 lbs and feel pretty good! I am actually *wanting* to exercise, which is a huge "wow" for me.
There are some days that I wish I could eat "normally" but all in all, I would do it again!
How is everyone else doing? What was your first WOW moment or your most recent?
Love to all
Heather T.

Topic: Started Lap/Converted to open
I had started Lapriscopically & they had to convert me to open.
I had adhesions that were unforeseen.
I have never had any children, nor any surgeries-so it was a big surprise for my surgeon.
Now I have the lap & open wounds that are healing.
My lap ones are doing better, and sometimes they hurt still (especially the one above my navel!!).
But my long scar is still sore.
I was thinking it is dry since it is healing, so I put lotion on it. However, it hurts still.
I told my surgeon about it on Friday at my "1mo" appointment (at 6weeks though).
I told him I feel bruised under all of it and sometimes I get these random kicks of pain.
Like right now though, about 2" from the left of my scar and mid belly, my belly hurts, real pain.
I am thinking that since they did lap (and below this pain about 3" is a lap scar) that I am bruised there too-don't know.
Surgeon says that since they cuts through layers & layers of tissue & muscle, I am expected to still feel pain. I am not that far out from surgery to feel the pain yet.
He said it should get better..(yeah yeah..
--just kidding)
He said I still shouldn't be lifting more than 35 pounds, etc-heck, 10 is a lot!
Anyone hearing me on this one??
Anyone "feeling my pain" so to speak?
Thanks for reading

Topic: RE: How about chocolate?
Jo,
I think it depends on the individual.
No warning about it that I am aware of-and I would be since I like chocolate
I have had the Sugar Free (SF) Carnation Instant Breakfast (CIB) after surgery & it went down fine.
The Unjury chocolate protein is good too, but I haven't had it since before surgery.
The only other chocolate I have had is through Viactive calcium chews (I should be having calcium citrate though..)
Can you tolerate milk?
That is what I put my SF CIB in.

Carrie
I have gone from 22/23 to 18/20 as well. I was @1 month when I got to this point.
I am losing a lot of inches in my bootay area, but only 24.5 pounds.

Topic: RE: Stuck Food
Pam-I know the feeling of "super saliva" I call it when your mouth is really runny with saliva and there's that hard huge pain betwix "the girls".
I have tried and hoped to upchuck it, but to no avail.
I had eaten too quickly & didn't realize it until too late, of course.
I tried "COKE ZERO" sip & then I got the HUGE pain more and then it went like "drano"
all better.
I am particularily scared about the chest pain issue since I had clogged on a blood clot
Topic: RE: Tired, no energy
Hi Dianna
I am about 6 weeks out now and I just had my 1 mo appt.
The nurse told me that I should only be getting 300 calories still and I should exercise.
She said that my/our bodies are doing the hybernation thing where it wants to hold onto each and every ounce of fat it can. We're supposed to pick up and get moving and then supposedly reap the burst of energy we get from this.
Maybe this is what you are feeling too?
I see other have lost 2x what I have, also.
I have lost 24.5 pounds (at 6 weeks)
she also told me to lay off the smoothies and eat the 300 calories.
I was doing the smoothies to get the protein in, but she wants me to eat the protein.
It is interesting how clinics all around give different information and expectations.
I need a kick start in the bootay!
