Hi Chris, it sounds like you are doing great!
Your diet seems very similar to mine, I am 2 weeks post op and saw my dr. and dietician yesterday. They said I can move to solids, and said the same thing as yours. Introduce one at a time and see what you can tolerate. I have not vomitted yet (knock on wood) but last night I did over do it. A collegue had sent over a casserole, with hamburger, cabbage and rice...all not recommended...well I had about 1/4 of a cup and had huge pain in my chest. I guess that was the food coming back up, my stomach saying whooaaa! Anyway, I was actually glad to see I had that restriction because like you I have pretty much tolerated everything I have tried so far.
I know what you mean about not sure how much to eat. The dietician asked me, and I said I usually try to eat about 1/2 cup of something then stop and usually afterwards I realize I am full. I dont know if I actually am feeling full at the time I stop but I try to stop anyway. Then afterwards I realize oh yes I was full. Maybe that would work for you too. Then if you feel like you need more then you can have another 1/2 or build up to a cup of food at a meal.
ALso remember to eat the protein of your meal first, then if there is room add fruits and vegs, and then carbs...in that order...so you make sure you get the protein in before you are too full.
I hope those ideas help, I am learning as I go too, nice to have the support of this web.

Topic: Almost 3 weeks post-op
Hey guys! I am almost 3 weeks post-op and have a question about how much I should be able to eat. My doctor seems to be a lot different than most others, but he has a very high success rate. I was on a clear liquid diet for the first 2 days after surgery. Then for the rest of the first week I was on a full liquid diet. After the first week I moved to a soft diet. Then after the second week I could start eating chicken, turkey and fish. I had to start on the deli sliced chicken and turkey and the fish had to be moist, such as tuna and I was instructed to start adding foods one at a time as I could tolerate them. I actually made a pot of chili using ground turkey breast instead of ground beef. It was so good!! I just don't know how much of the food I should be able to eat. I stop eating when I feel the fullness, but then after a few minutes after I stop eating I feel like I have over eat. What am I doing wrong??
I have been very fortunate in that I have kept everything I have eaten down so far, and I haven't had any complications. Well, there was one night I threw up when I ate one bite too much of a turkey burger. I have been eating a scrambled egg with lowfat cheese to get a good dose of protein in the mornings. Beginning Sunday I added a turkey sausage link and got down most of one link and about 3/4 of the egg. I ate a little bit of a grilled chicken breast for lunch yesterday, and then last night I ate about 1/2 of a salmon patty and a couple of tablespoons of northern beans. I worry that maybe I'm doing something wrong and eating too much. Does this sound normal? I am so scared of stretching my pouch and of course I'm terrified that I'll screw up and not be successful in losing this weight.
I don't feel like I'm getting in enough protein but I can't tolerate the protein drinks. Does anyone have any suggestions or good recipes for protein shakes?
Thanks for any input!
Chris

Topic: RE: WORK?
I am a supervisor for a ambulance company, so since I sit in an office most of the time I came back full-time 2 weeks post-op. I was released for full-duty as of 09.05.06. I feel great. I was getting tired sitting at home, so now that I keep myself busy I am feeling better and better each day! I am going to the gym at least 3 times a week (although the past week and it looks like this week too, I will be there 5-6 times in a week). I found that once I started moving and getting back into my normal routine the more energy I got!
Best of luck to everyone...hope your recovery is smooth and trouble free!

Hi Trish!
I'm just 15 days out and man, let me tell you, I get fatigued so EASILY! I just got cleared to drive and I went to the doctor's (endocrinologists) yesterday...then when I came home I decided to help my daughter pick up the house a bit. After less than 10 minutes cleaning I was exhausted! I had to sit down and catch my breath and rest. I did a little more work, what I was physically able to, and let me tell you, I was exhausted all the rest of the day. I finally fell into bed tired to the bone. And wouldn't ya know it, I couldn't stay asleep past 4 am, so here I am, up and sipping tea and reading Obesityhelp.com forums. But yeah, I must have been living in La-La Land cuz I had told myself that I was going to bounce right back from this surgery. I had an open gall bladder removal when I was 16 and I had NO problems recovering from that surgery. My best friend, to whom I related my sentiments on that, said, "Uh Winnie, you were SIXTEEN! You're TWICE as old now (Yeah, I'm 32.)--OF COURSE you're not going to recover in the same manner!" Plus she reminded me that not only am I overweight now, and wasn't when I was 16, but also I have diabetes, and those factors all count in my recovery time and how well I am doing. So hang in there girlfriend! I say let's just stop right here and go take a nice nappie....zzzzzzzz.......

Happy Birthday!!
Here I am at 4:30 am, still don't sleep all night, so here I sit. Just read your profile, well done! and saw it was your birthday yesterday! hope you had a happy day!
How did your 2 week appointment go? Mine was yesterday too and it went well. I have lost 15 pounds, and I am happy with that even though I know others will have lost more. They said I look great, and I wanted to say...just you wait! They said I could start on solid foods and so I overdid it my first night supper. A collegue brought over a casserole, with rice, hamburger and cabbage...not stuff I should have...I had about a 1/4 and had such a burning I had to lay down...
In the end, I was glad I had it, I needed to know I had that restriction...does that make sense?
Just wanted to say way to go on your losing and life choices...it really is exciting isn't it?

Topic: RE: week 3 post op
I will be three weeks this Wednesday. When I had my 2 week post op I was 25 lbs down. I will return next week for my one month.
I have never been able to get the fluid in. The most I have gotten in within a 24 hour period was 30 ounces and 15 g of protein.
I started having trouble on Saturday night when I started spitting up blood. I called the doctor and he put me on clear liquids until today. They called this morning and have an appointment for me to see another doctor about an endoscopy. That sounds like a blast!
I hope it isn't anything too major. I can not drink more than about 1/2 an ounce every 20-30 mins and even that is hard to keep down. I feel like I am frothing at the mouth.
As for running out of steam, 1 oclock seems to be my brick wall. Of course I get up at 6am so that is still a long stretch. I have been taking a 90 min nap and still can sleep at night. I still sleep in a recliner because of my CPAP.
Hang in there... it will get better.
