Topic: 10 days out & Feeling GREAT!
I am soo excited about the choice I made to have this surgery & sooo thankful God provided a way for me to pay for it. So far I am 23 pounds down. I know this will slow down, but still I am happy. I can't believe how easy this process has been and how great I feel. Sooo, what is the best tasting, lowest calorie, no sugar shake? Holli

I hate to walk! Yesterday I went by myself, today I drug my husband along, which was good. He really pushed me, irritated me, but pushed me nonetheless. So if you have a friend or family member to walk with you try that. If you don't, walk in place in front of the television for 10 minutes alternating bringing your knees up and leaving them just walking. Be creative! I like to dance during commercials, usually there is a lot of music. I pretend I am Beyonce or Chikira (sp). I secretly want to be a belly dancer, anyway..good luck and don't forget your goal~ Holli

From what I understand hiccups mean your pouch is full....it couls be full of air, food or liquids. I tried drinking out of a straw and that gave me hiccups & if all else fails stand on your head~ Holli

I love hot and spicy flavors, so I got one small pintos and cheese from Taco Bell. I took one tablespoon of the beans and mixed it with one pack of the hot sauce. It was really runny and really YUMMY! Holli

Topic: Finally Home
I finally got home Friday Sept. 8 after a long 10 day stay. I appreciate all the prayers and support they were felt and needed. I had Lap RNY Aug. 30th at Portsmouth Naval. During the surgery my doc noticed some bubbles on the first leak test and went back and did 3 more sutures but told my husband he would be going with me to my "swallow test" the next am. True to his word he was right beside me and the test didn't show any leaks I started having extreme pain within hours and had a rock hard distended ab. It felt like a charlie horse right below my breastbone. They put me back on pain pump and tried other drugs and the pain did not subside, doc was ready to go back in and decided to do one more swallow study about 1am He held my hand during this one. He is awesome. They still didn't see a leak but did see esophigial spasms. I was hurting so bad I couldn't function so the doc. decided to keep me NPO (nothing by mouth) for a full 7 days to allow me to heal he was afraid of a micro leak. Anyway we did another set of x-rays no barium because he saw some white stuff in my jp drain and was thinking I was leaking. I had to have a central IV line put in and spent 7 days on TPN the only thing in my mouth was a toothbrush. This was all during that charming Ernesto storm which had half the town flooded I was alone at the hospital because hubby got stuck at home when he went home for a couple of hours of sleep. My doc stayed at the hospital 24/7 til he was satisfied I didn't have to have more surgery he was also trapped by the storm Once the pain got under control I didn't care if I ever ate again. They pulled my jp drain thurs. and he saw blood clots and I had lower right side pain so off we go to CT scan to check for absess or appendicitis. They saw a little fluid around the stomach remnant but not enought to drain and I was on enough antibiotics to kill anything so they let me proceed to stage 2 and 3 and finally let me come home yesterday. I was doing fine til I fell in the shower. Now I am even more bruised. Pouch is still tender but I am keeping most stuff down. I feel like I am coming out of a fog so bear with me if this isn't real clear.

Trish~ I hear you on that! I was so glad to come home! My room mate at the hospital was about 80 years old and was bed ridden, she was not a gastric bypass patient, she had fallen a few days before that and they put her in the hospital. Well, since she was bed ridden, and the nursed didn't want to come in and give her the bed pan every 5 minutes she wore a diaper all day and night. The first night she had to drink a GALLON of some bowel prep stuff for a colonoscopy the next morning, and they started that at 10pm. She finished it a 4am. It was awful, the poor thing lived in her own waste, they came in and threw all the lights on every hour to change her and bathe her. The second day they discovered she was severely anemic. So they started giving her massive doses of iron, which binds you. To counteract that they started giving her sorbitol shots, which give you the sh*ts! I was sick to my stomach most of the time at the hospital, not because I was sick, but because of the constant smell. I couldn't wait to get home and sleep with the lights off and not have to "smell that smell" my every waking moment. I am just remembering how happy I am to be back at home! michelle

Topic: RE: Any stiff necks out there?
The first week the worst part of my pain was the neck pain. Thankfully it's all better now. I had actually forgotten about how much it hurt before until you mentioned it. It does get better. I can't remember when it stopped hurting but, like I said, it's completely gone now. I didn't ask my surgeon, it's nice to have an explanation as to that neck pain. It really hurt.

Topic: Motivtion to exercise
I'm really struggling with getting myself motivated to walk. I have arthrisis in my knees and was so liimited before surgery. Even at 10 days out there is a definite change and my knees hardly hurt at all. I know I could walk 10 minutes or so, slowly, but I'm having trouble getting myself to do it. Is anyone else have trouble with getting the motor going? I know exercise is critical for success. Dianna
