Topic: RE: Fat free refried beans
I had some last week and I think I will be having some more tonight. It's a nice texture change from the soups. I'm thinking of trying some pureed chili. I am definitely craving bolder tastes.

Topic: Fat free refried beans
Hello all,
I'm soon to be 3 weeks out and when I went to my doctors office on Wed he told me to try fat free refried beans along with the cream soups for variety. I tell you what, that was the best thing I have eaten since my surgery. I put 2 tablespoons in a small saucer put it in the microwave for about 45 seconds to heat. Added one pinch of low fat shredded cheese and enjoyed. Needless to say I was full after the 2 tablespoons of the refried beans but oh how good!
Anyone have any other recipes that are fat free and yummy?

Topic: RE: Why do all protein drinks taste like vomit to me?
Jacie,
I am glad to see that it is not just me. It seemed like before surgery it was fine, but now.....oh my Lord!!!
I have struggled to find something I could tolerate.
I did find some sort of choc. protein drink from GNC and it is not too bad. Especially, if it is cold. MMM...good.
I thought Proteinex would be the answer, but to me, it tastes like rancid bile and it is all I can do NOT to throw up after getting that mess down. And, Isopure is the nastiest junk I have ever tasted.
IF they can put a man on the moon, surely they can make a GOOD protein drink for us.

Topic: RE: 1 week post op- getting hungry now, and bored with full fluids-suggestions?
Fat2Fit2006,
My surgery was 8/14/06 and I was bored with all of that after the first week. I could barely stand it. Plus, my mom and sister ate any and everything and I felt extremely angry watching them eat burgers, fries, tacos, and whatever else they ate and all I could have was a @!#$%& protein drink or pudding cup.
I felt better when I went to my own home and was able to not feel tempted with my mom and sister's greasy delights.
Hang in there. It does get better.
Also, I have had more gas than anything. I returned to work this week and was fine the first two days. Now, I know I better take the gas-x at work. It seems like the more water I drink, the more gas I have.

I'll take a look at it. I have some protein shakes that I got on the web. I was wondering about the pudding.
I noticed that after I mix the shakes they have this strange smell. Does the pudding have a strange smell?

Hi Michelle,
That is great that you can eat that but her surgeon wanted her to stay on clear liquids. I understand that each surgeon is different...I know mine is very conservative...but his record for readmissions due to problems is spotless. I figured he knows what he is doing so I follow his regime.
She also wasn't getting in fluids.....maybe 8 ounces a day. That just isn't good for the body and to add the stress of digestion on top of that.
I just hope she is okay. No offended at all.
Hugs,
Traci

Hi again, Awesome thread, thanks so much for your thoughts/suggestions,
Tanya, thank you for telling me about your stomach issues, I see my doctor on Monday, I will be asking him about that. It seems to be a bit better though. I hope you have it cleared up next visit.
I did call my dietician and she said I could start with a few more solids pureed, she said chunky soup purreed and scrambled egg with milk. I had that for lunch and it did feel like I was eating something. But I only ate about half of it, I can see what you mean about your tastes changing.
This is quite the journey and learning curve we are all on isn't it?

Im not trying to go against you but I was told by my butritionist and surgeon on Day 9 that I could start eating protien, chicken, tuna, turkey as long as it was moist. I have been and have not had a problem. They told me to chew real well and very tiny bites. I was not allowed to have fruits and veggies (very soft ones****il yesterday and can not have starches, breads and grains until next Wednesday. Had she talked to her Surgeon or nutritionist? All are different. Not trying to offend just telling you what is going on with me.
