It is interesting how many of us have had the same surgery and yet variations of what to eat afterwards. The dietician at the hospital explained to me how important it is to get the protein in. She said I should aim for 60 g of protein a day!! I knew it would be difficult for me, I don't really like milk and of course that is the best provider for protein on fluids. Anyway, today, I really tried, and had a whooping 12 1/2 g of protein...geez...I dont know how I am going to get to 30 yet alone 60! But I got skim milk powder and put a couple of teaspoons of it in apple sauce, wasnt too bad.
btw when I can only drink 1/4 c at a time right now of milk that translates to about 2 g of protein....any ideas? I guess I need to get the protein shakes running hmm?
One of you mentioned making a meal for your family and not craving it. It is strange, my mom brought over lasagna and homemade bread and oohhh it sounded/looked so good. But my stomach did not want it, it was totally my head! Tonight my daughter didnt know what to have to eat (the rest of family was out and she was at home with me). I made her homemade bread toast with garden tomatoes, one of my favourites and jus****ched her eat it! mmmmmm

Hi Everyone,
Date of surgery? August 7th
Weight lost? 23 lbs since surgery
Any problems you are having? Just three issues.
#1) Constipation starting week 3
#2) I am having a hard time with my Calcium Citrate lozengers (makes me gag). I see my surgeon on Tuesday for my 4 week follow-up. Hopefully I can start swalling pills
#3) Heartburn - before surgery I had chronic heartburn and acid reflux. I still have it and taking liquid Carafate for it. Once again, hopefully I can start back up on Protonix pills soon.

Hey, I am 4 days post op, hang in there! I was feeling pretty down the 2nd day thinking...what the ..... did I just do to my body!! But then a member I met from here came to see me and cheered me right up. She was down 70 pounds since her surgery in April and so full of life. Just try to keep that in mind, it is a pain in the...you know what now...but each day will get better and we are on our way!!

helped me feel human. Mom says I'm doing much better than she expected. They didn't take me in until about 4pm. Had an excellent nurse Wed. night. Thusrday evening I had an aniexty attack.
That was horrible. Angain, I had the perfect nurse. He knew what to do. My poor mom!
I hurt. I didn't think it would hurt so badly. The whold point of the surgery is to get rid of th pain. They weighed me after surgery and I had gained 16 lbs. that didn't hlep. God s good and I know I'll survive.....sometimes I have a hard time convincing myself of that.

Hey Jo Alba!
Congrats on your successful surgery! Sounds like you have the exercise thing under control too.
I am a bit over 2wks out and had similar protein questions so I posted on the main message board and attached a link to that thread if you're interested. The responses I got from the OH folks really made sense. Keep us posted on your progress...what an amazing journey for all of us
Cheers to you on your wonderful work

Topic: Post op and at home 3 days
Hi everybody,
I am deeanna and I had surgery on 8/30/06 at Fresno Heart Hospital in fresno california with Dr Boone, of ALSA. I had surgery at 730 am and was on no pain meds by 1pm. I was doing so well that my Dr. let me go home the next day. I haven't had any complications. Whew! I know this isn't usual but I'm very grateful
I hope everybody else is doing great as well. If anyones needs to talk or having problems I am always here to help if I can
Have a great day
Dee

I am on clear liquids, broth, diet, decaf iced tea, jello and popsicles. I carry around a 32 ounce cup with iced tea in it and just sip it all day. When it is empty, I fill it again. I just keep sipping at it.
I go to regular liquids Monday, but then it is llike protein drinks and shakes with yogurt and berries and stuff like that.
Hugs,
Trish

Congrats on your surgery! I too can drink more than I think I am supposed to be able to. I can drink a 16.9oz aquafina in an hour and a half. I heard people at the support group who were 6 months out who said it takes them 5 hours to drink that much. Kinda weird huh? Anyway I hope things get much better for you! Good luck to you!

I had mine Aug 3, and I definitely did not feel like even looking at my computer for 10 days! I had mine open though and it seems like I was having quite a deal more pain than most. I definitely want to keep posting here its good for us all to keep eachother in good spirits being that we are all going through basically the same thing. I also like to compare notes. Congrats to all of our August LOSERS! Keep up the good work!!
