Topic: 9 Days Post Op now
This is my first time posting. Been getting a lot of good information from everyone. My surgery was August 9th and I am doing far better then I expected. According to my home scale I am down 20lbs already.
The weirdest part is I always had a lot of swelling in my feet and the swelling is all gone and my feet are the slimest I have ever seen them...lol but my feet are very cold now and I am wearing socks to keep them warm. Very strange huh.

Hi Amanda... You are definitely not alone in how you feel. I too felt exactly the same way right up until they wheeled me in the operating room. I had surgery on the 5th and its been almost 2 weeks and I can already tell you that its the "BEST THING I EVER DID FOR MYSELF!" I'm not saying this is easy but its better than the way I was living. My clothes are getting looser, my bras are getting bigger, and I just feel better about myself. After surgery when you wake up your first thought will probably be HOLY **** - WHY DID I DO THIS and TOTALLY REGRET IT and I promise that will pass fairly quickly. I was fine after the first day - so please don't worry and know you will be okay. Hang in there!!!! Everything will be fine.

Topic: RE: Liquid Diet
I too am on pre-op liquid diet. One thing my surgeon said was okay is Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast (Blue Box) made with 1 cup skim milk plus 1/3 cup instant non-fat dry milk powder. It comes in both a chocolate and french vanilla, and I have found both of them to be palatable. Good luck!

I wish you the best, I am waiting on the scheduling department to schedule my surgery. Just got the letter from the insurance company last week.
Topic: Home and feeling great
Hey all,
I hope all is well for you. I had surgery on Tuesday and came home yesterday. I'm off my pain meds. I still have some discomfort, but it's nothing that requires narcotics, it's very tollerable.
I did a 14 day liquid diet instead of the 10 day my surgeon required. I hold most of my weight in my belly, so he was worried that he would have to do an open proceedure to be able to get at what he needed to, but he said the diet I did shrinked my liver so much that he had more than enough room to do everything. He also finished the surgery a hour faster than he thought he would have to.
In general, I'm feeling great. I'm having problems concentrating on things, but I think that is the hangover from the narcotics. I'm drinking and walking just fine. Anything I drink makes me burp.
I have 6 incisions. Five are covered with Steri-strips. The one with the Jtube (now removed) hasn't healed yet and it's a little tender. My stomach is covered with bruises from the Hepron shots they gave me while I was in the hospital (6 in all?). I've got a dark purple bruise from where my IV was. My belly and arm are covered with adhesive residue from all the tape.
Even though it's too soon to get results from the surgery, I'm glad I did it. Best wishes to all. I hope all of you have as nice of a recovery as I'm having. I"m astonished at how well it's going.
HUGS to all

I was scared too, I kept telling everyone I was fine and excited but I was nervous. There was really no reason to worry, because before I knew it, it was over although it was funny because after my surgery I kept having dreams that they were prepping me for surgery and then I would wake up and go "Oh, I already had surgery" it was odd. You will do great, of course you are going to worry slightly that is normal, but don't lose sleep over it because before you know it you too will be on the losing side and realize that you worried for nothing.
Congrats and good luck!!

Topic: RE: 1st post-op post. More pain than expected, but doing well.
Hi Sherry! I had my surgery Aug 3rd and I had heard similar, that people experienced no pain and it was such a breeze. When I woke up from my surgery I felt horrible, honestly I felt like someone had cut me in half it was bad, my mom and boyfriend stood by my sides and tried to hold my hands but all I could do was gouge at their hands with my nails because I didn't know how to deal with the pain. Now once the epidural kicked in that was another story all together, I felt NOTHING after that baby kicked in and anytime I felt the slightest bit of anything I would push that button and I was good to go. When they took my epidural out, it was painful but about 5 days out I was feeling pretty good. Congrats on getting the staples out!!!
