Topic: RE: Are you Bypass or Band???
I chose to have a Lap RNY for several reasons. At first since I was a lightweight I thought the band would be better and then I did research. I am an ICU RN at the hospital where I was having my surgery and I saw how many RNY vs bands came into my unit with complications. We had 3 more bands come in compaired to the RNY. Also the refills are a problem for me- that is where you can burst the band or dislodge the placement and I dont like needles ( go figure I am a nurse ). Lastly I went on a search for long term research and there is not a HUGE amount of long term studies with the band and that concerned me. If i am going to do something so life changing I want to know what the possibilites are like. And knowing that the band can be reversed made me think with my will power and thinking will I eat around it and just get it adjusted. With the RNY there is no adjusting- just my williness to make it work for me. I am not saying anyone who chose the band are wrong or bad I am proud of each and every person and support them to the heavens. This was just MY reasons. I am 9 days out and had my post op visit with my doctor and I have lost 16lbs and I feel wonderful. I am waiting for each of you on the bench of losers and will say a huge prayer for you on your surgery date. KEEP me updated... Hugs, Tanya

Topic: RE: Question for the new post ops's/veteren post ops?????
I see several folks mentioning cream soups... Cream of what? mushroom? chicken? Which ones are "good" for you in these first weeks pre-op? Any to avoid? And, I see that some of you blenderize and/or strain them while others don't... Is this absolutely necessary or did you do it only when you saw you had issues with not doing it? As for adding protein powder to stuff, which protein powder are you using when you add it to stuff like applesauce, jello, pudding, and such? I've heard good things about the Unjury unflavored... Any others that you guys liked? THANKS FOR ALL THE HELPFUL INFO!!

Topic: Small Changes
I went to get a bone density scan done this morning (my last appointment before surgery) and learned some interesting things: 1. I am taller than I thought I was. The Rhumetologist (sp) "officially" measured my height and I am over 5'4" 2. I was weighed and I'm losing from the liquid diet. Maybe down 11 pounds now. 3. My total hip bone density is in the 124th percentile. I got hips of STEEL! The combo of changes has moved my BMI out of the 50's and into the 40's. Still terrible, I know, but it's nice to see changes, even if they are small. YAY me 4 days until surgery.

Thank you Twinnytwin and Cheryl! Cheryl, you will do fine! Be sure to get up and walk as soon as you are able and move around in bed as much as possible. When I went to the bathroom I forced myself to bend to wipe and I coughed like crazy because my sinuses were draining and I think that helped work the soreness out. They gave me an incentive spirometer to help with deep breathing which helps work out soreness too. It made me cough too. I will be praying for you and please let us know as soon as possible how you are doing!

Topic: All doctor appts finished!!
Yesterday was it , I had my pre-op with labs and the Anesthiologist. All labs are great, even my iron level was good 12.78 and for me that is a blessing! I have surgery in 10 days. When I started this Journey on April 26 with my informational meeting, never did I think in less than 4 months I would be starting another chapter in my life . My twin sister says we will look like a 10 walking down the street. She is now is the hoping to have surgery portion of her journey, I told her we will look like 11 soon enough! Thanks to everyone who has sent warm wishes and prayers to me, It really has meant alot. I will let everyone know how it feels to be on the losing side once I get there! Till later! Twinnytwin
