I noticed that some of you have proximal and distal listed as your type of RNY... I haven't heard those terms in an explanation of the procedure... does anyone have any clue where I could find that information? Thanks Rachel

I think it refers to how much of the intestine is bypassed in surgery, and from what I've heard proximal RNYs are much more common and/or recommended because of absorption issues. I researched it here once when I was looking for some info myself, and found a lot of references. I think if you just enter the terms in the search field you should find a lot of info on it. At my surgery support group I was told our local surgeon won't do distal because of too many potential problems, but there are apparently lots of surgeons who support that option. Good luck! Holly
