Topic: RE: Goal from Doc
When I talked to my doctor I asked him about my " goal" he said he usually likes for his patients to be at a 30 BMI I think for me that would be about 170 or so. He asked me what I wanted to be at and I said 200 would be nice. He said try for 210/215 . Well I am still at 224/225 and haven't moved maybe up or down. But the good news is I ONLY need to lose 10-15 pounds to reach that goal !
It doesn't seem as far away as a year ago when I needed to lose over 100 pounds.

a bmi of 28 would put me at 168 lbs.
My doc and I set a goal of 180 and he said that would be fine because of the larger bone mass and such of being fomerly obese.
Maybe when I get to 180 i'll want to be at 168 but for right now I just want to get to 200 lbs, some days it seems like a drop in a bucket compared to where I have been and yet it seems like so far to go some other days.
So far it's 1 day at a time though and it seems to be working

Hi Ila, I hope you keep posting and reading, and don't worry about the spelling etc. We are all very loving and supportive!! I think you're definitely not alone Ila, when you say you don't like to look at yourself cause of the skin hanging, but someone said the other day better to have it hanging than clinging to your body!! And that is true.
Take care Ila, and please keep reading and posting. I'd like to get to iiknow you more!!

Topic: RE: Possible ulcer?
Hi Maggie, I actually think I have an ulcer but I haven't been 'scoped' yet. I take Prilosec as well and when I don't I get in real trouble. I went to my surgeon on Tuesday and he does want me to be checked.
For losing the rest of the weight - don't beat yourself up. You can continue to lose successfully past the 12 months, so keep trying. Go back to no carbs (if you have some), up the exercise, track your calories, all that stuff.
I don't know if smoking aggervates the ulcer or not. I don't know that much about it.
Hang in there, - there are plenty on this board that are not at goal and have to lose more, so you're not alone. Dont be discouraged! Look at how well you've done!!

Hi - I actually did see that show. By the way, what do you think of his program? Anyway, I probably had poor timing on this one, but my husband got out of the shower and came in the bedroom (naked!!) and I said 'oh by the way, I watched a show yesterday that said if you lose 35 lbs you gain a inch in your penis'. Like I said I don't think my timing was particularly sensitive!! So I quickly recovered and said, although you don't need to worry about that!! But i fear the damage was done as he looked a little rejected!! Timing is everything!!!

Hey,
Congratulations on your weight loss. I've got a suggestion. At the lower weight loosing 10 pounds is a much bigger deal than it used to be. I remember when I could drop 10 pounds in a week. But my last 10 pounds to goal took me 3 months. Why not give yourself unitl your 18 month anniversary to loose the 10 pounds? Trying to loose it in 2 weeks may not be practicle, probably isn't healthy and will just set you up for failure. Just a suggestion.

Thank you so much for that information. I to feel like you do. I still want to loose 25 pounds to get to my goal. I know that I am older and being a skinny thing may not happen for me, but my goal is right in the middle of the average for my height and I have seen other people here reach that success. It has been killing me inside. I know that I am skinner than the average woman my age, and even that hasn't made me feel any better.
When I read this the first thing I did was check my bmi. I figured I was above the 28--- I am actually 25.3. not bad.... and close to not being overweight any more.
I will still reach for the stars but for now you have brought me a little peace.
thanks donna
Topic: Goal from Doc
Last night at our support group meeting someone threw out the question to one of our docs about goals. Our previous doc in charge of the program didnt discuss the weight loss much as he was of the mindset that this isnt about how much you lose its about getting healthy. Well this question has been on my mind alot where should i be am i ok i was feeling really bad about myself thinking oh im so close and cant budge. The old thinking starts kreeping in and I start making bad food choices ... you all know the scenario. Well he said if he had to choose a goal it would be that we get below a bmi of 28 he said if we could do that then we were where we need to be. Well im a 26.6 so Ta Dah!!! ive done it . Now to get the pesky guy off my shoulder that is whispering failure in my ear because that darn bmi scale still says im overweight im shooting for losing 10 lbs by xmas. Anyone with me want to try to kick some pesky lbs to the curb?
We also discussed the fact that alot of us are in smaller sizes at higher weights than we use to be. He said that being heavy though really bad for us in most ways had a little bit of an advantage after weight loss our bones are more dense because our frames carried so much excess weight around. We alos carry alot of muscle in our legs and such. So i guess thats a little bit of an explanation.
My kids are on the band wagon with me. Though we arent dieting per say we just arent going to have the bad food options in the house to choose from and they are both doing a set of exercises before and after school each day. Just a few to boost that metabolism. Im hoping to pass on better choices to them as i know i didnt in the past.

Hehehe, well did you guys watch Oprah yesterday?? She had Dr. Oz (about diets) on and he said that for every 35lbs a man loses he gains an inch! HA I thought that was funny but I can believe it. You'd think that would be some motivation!
