We are all different but I was 26 months out from sleeve surgery when I started to have complications. I had a bowel obstruction, but in all honesty I was confused as to why I would have all this pain in my left side cause I thought that I was using the bathroom normally but when they did the xr-ay I was literally blocked up to my stomach. Ct scan, ng tube and surgery followed in the 5 days after being admitted into the hospital. LIke I said we are all different but be mindful of your symptoms and don't let things go.

Hope you feel better soon.

I have nothing to offer but will say a prayer for you.  Please keep us posted on what the docs say.

Topic: cramping x 1 week

Hello Everyone. Tomorrow is my 1 year surgiversary. Yea....just about 160 lbs lost.

The last week I have been having cramps on and off. They last for about 2 to 3 hours and it has happen all times of the day

including in the middle of the night. I went to the emerg last friday night because the nurses at the weight wise clinic said I should. X-ray's and blood work came out normal. I was symptom free for 3 days over the weekend and monday. Then yesterday

it happened again. The abdominal cramps happen mostly in my left quadrant and can radiate all over my stomach.

Has anyone had symptoms like this before? I'm having pretty regular BM's and I'm not eating anything different.

I do have an appt tomorrow for my 1 year check up in Edmonton and the nurses are checking with doctor about doing

some tests while I'm in there but I'm starting to get concerned. You'd think after a year everything would be healed fine. It may not be related to my gastric bypass.

Any common symptoms for others out there?

Thank you Mani!  I bit the bullet and bought a 6 pack of Ensure High Protein (chocolate).  I haven't tried them yet but I figure it's there when I need it.

Some days I feel like I'm prepping more for this surgery than I did for childbirth lol!

I had Dr. Nohr as well and same process as already explained.

If you are traveling from out of province, pending on where you are from, health coverage may cover a portion of travel, hotel, meals, companion, etc.  Take a look at your provinces health care website for out of province surgery.  I looked in to it as I was in Manitoba at the time I was referred to AB for the surgery.

About the only ones that I drank were the chocolate Premier Protein ones from costco.  Pending on where you are located, I would be happy to pass one along to you to try.  I don't use them now but do still have some from a case that I had.

there is a previous string re replacement drinks/protein drinks.  I tell people to go to a body building store called Popeye's because you can sample flavours there on site.  And if you take one home and then decide you don't like it you can return it for credit for another product.  I find the fruit flavoured ones best because you can mix them with water, juice or even a bit of Crystal Light for a flavour change.  The vanilla, choc and strawberry ones get tedious after a while........... They run about 100 cals and 20-25 g protein, 0 sugar per drink......

You really aren't looking for a meal replacement, what you are looking for is a supplement to sip on between meals.  You need to re-learn to eat healthy, nutrition packed small meals.  But as there isn't usually enough protein in what you will be able to eat (small, small portions), you need to add more protein to your diet via the supplements.  You will probably find you need between 100-150 grams of protein per day.  And considering an egg is about 9 grams of protein, you can see you would be eating a whole lot in a day if you didn't supplement between meals..........

Everyone is different but I didn't do protein drinks before or after surgery. I didn't meet my protein requirement then and I still don't now but as for the drinks I could never tolerate them. They hurt my sleeve something awful.

Good Luck and like said before don't buy to many cause your taste will change after surgery.

Kee.
