Do the clinic's recommend Ensure specifically or can you do any protein shake?  cause it might be worth trying something else?

My surgeon estimated that my surgery date will be early-May to mid-May, I am just waiting to sign my consent forms.`

I have a question.  I have tried a day here and there of the Ensure shakes to see how I would do with it,  because come hell or high water I am doing it, and I didn't get hunger as much as I got REALLY sick.  Both days I tried I got a severe migraine, muscle cramping, vomiting and felt really week (which I expected). By the end of the day I was eating toast to make myself feel better. I am soooo scared to start the 3 week liquid diet.

Has anyone else experience these type of symptoms?  If so, how many days did they last and how did you cope?

Topic: Tips on the 3 week liquid diet HEEELLLLPPPP

In the Calgary clinic you must complete a 2-3 week liquid diet before your surgery day.  This is the part I am struggling with.  my surgery isn't until mid-may or early-June but I have tried a day here and there to see how I could do on just the Ensure High Protein shakes and it wasn't hunger that got me, it was the fact that I got very ill each time I tried. Half way through the day I was in bed crying from migraine, shakes, muscle cramping, vomiting and much more. I am petrified for the day I have to do it for 3 weeks.  I am wondering if this reaction is normal? If so, how long does it last?  Any suggestions on what I can do to help with these symptoms.  Again, it is not a problem with hunger, it is the sickness and symptoms I go through.

Any suggestions would be great!

I am also in the Calgary clinic and I met with the surgeon for the first time in mid-Jan and his estimate for surgery date is mid-May to early June. After you finish your 6 mandatory classes it is usually less than a year before your surgery.  It all depends on booking of appts and the availability.

Good luck!

I am so happy for you.

I have been in this process for so long, I am at about 1 year 8 months now. I was approved for surgery here in Edmonton on June 4 2014. So I am at just over 9 months approved. I should be getting a phone call with a surgery date pretty much any day now, and the anticipation is nearly killing me.

I had my surgery in Red Deer in November. I had no issues at all. As soon as I woke up I was so happy and relieved because I'd been debating for such a long time on whether this was the right thing for me. When it was over I didn't have to worry anymore. I have no regrets at all. So far I'm down 37lbs from surgery, 75 lbs from last March when I started with the clinic. You'll be anxious and panic a bit and really wonder if you should or not but don't let your emotions outthink your common sense and what you know is scientifically proven to be so helpful.

Ah... The gas... :(  Any tips on getting rid of that is wonderful, thank you!

Glad to hear your clinic is so good.  I haven't had any troubles with mine either.  They have been great!

I love watching the VSG stories on youtube.  I spent the last 6 months of my life listening and watching, taking notes etc.  I am so ready!! :)
